We as a society pay money to literally torture ourselves.
@1:48 it say's it got prisoners into shape. @2:30 prisoners did not get enough food(poor nutrition) to fuel the workouts, leading to health issues.

Treadmill's have good applications as well.
To watch tv/videos as you cannot do that well outside walking/running. I've seen some gyms with cinema's playing movies 24/7 with various cardio machines and no seats.
Perhaps environment/location is not good to walk around at certain times (crime, country, traffic pollution etc).

Well to be honest, the no pain no gain philosophy isn't completely false imo. Good things take effort and only doing things that are pleasurable/not stressful doesn't really develop willpower. It's just our culture is unbalanced so we don't know what pain is actually beneficial as opposed to what pain is counterproductive since our instincts in general are not as good as they should be as a result of PUFA poisoning.
