The Skinny On Saturated Fat

Here's another article suggesting that saturated fat is more dangerous than unsaturated fat.

PUFAs curiously seem to always get a free pass in such discussions; it's always saturated fat or sugar that's to blame.

As many other will surely point out, this article completely misses the point.

It doesn't address the mechanisms behind diet and lifestyle causing heart disease, and merely looks at correlations.

Haidut did a podcast with Danny Roddy on heart disease and stroke and explained a lot of the mechanisms.

These goons again..

'Part of the problem is that some people will start using coconut oil, thinking it is a superfood, instead of making the more basic adjustments to their diet and lifestyle. There are no superfoods'

'I do not think the evidence supports any extreme diet, such as a low carbohydrate or low fat diet. Balanced macronutrients from a varied diet is likely best'

Pretty sensible conclusions.

One problem with mainstream advice is how generic it is.

Saturated fat from dairy (but not coconut) is fattening. But just because it's fattening doesn't mean it causes atherosclerosis. That's where they go wrong.

Everything is fattening in excess, except for starches which are often fattening in any amounts. Coconut oil in excess is definitely fattening. Which is why Peat has gone so many times on the record saying he only recommends tiny amounts. So there.

Starches are only fattening when mixed with fat. In my experience
