intensive long distance and endurance sports are lunacy and extremely destructive.
our bodies have evolved to move across terrain in a dynamic way, we are adapted to run at changing speeds, jump walk, throw , climb and even swim.
running at a fixed pace on straightened ground is insanity and its a shame that it is so widely accepted as healthy, and whats even worse is the amount of people who forcibly lie to themselves telling themselves that they enjoy it. rarely anyone ever enjoys it and thats why you never see children running fixed pace 10k races at the playground.
if you want to get a better understanding of the way our bodies were meant to move in for exercise, observe how children play in the kindergarten, they are unbiased and naturally move and play according to their biomechanics, as we grow older we learn to move in a culturally appropriate way, monotone and boring.

I'm not sure I have *ever* seen an adult running who appeared to be enjoying themselves.
