The Food and Drug Administration says that ractopamine is safe. The agency approved its use in pigs in 1999.
Safety regulators in the European Union, China, Russia and a variety of other countries have not approved the drug. They say there's not yet enough evidence to prove that pork produced using ractopamine is safe to eat.
Yeah, and that article is nearly a year old and I'd never heard anything about it. It makes you wonder what else is lurking in our food and being hidden from us. Thanks for posting this information and bringing it to our attention @sm1693.Thats crazy that there is a "maximum residue limit." So, they are admitting there is ractopamine in the flesh of the slaughtered animal, and it hasn't concerned anyone.
