This just in:
http://press.endocrine.org/doi/full/10. ... .2013-2760

"...There is a growing body of evidence that suggests that the diagnostic criteria for hypothyroidism should be changed. Hypothyroidism has vague symptoms like fatigue and weight gain, and consequently many patients are misdiagnosed with depression or are told it's all in their heads."

Ray Peat wrote in many of his articles that two of the classic signs of hypothyroidism are "depression" and weight gain. Modern medicine is finally starting to take notice.

Or losing money. Endocrinologists might be worried that they're losing patients who massively go online to get better thyroid treatment. So they're seeking ways to cut their losses in revenue. (sitting all day, mindlessly requesting tests and getting paid was fun while it lasted)

The evidence has been available forever. Any person with mid-level intelligence can judge correctly once they're given both arguments. There isn't even an argument to conclude just 5% of people are hypothyroid. It's just a tradition which started with a test that was later proven wrong.

I agree. Some doctors I know started sending pamphlets to their patients advertising "improved" thyroid testing, which is not yet covered by the insurance companies. Of course, as it is often true in the world of advertising the message is "act now or you'll be late to the party". As if getting tested every year by the latest and greatest medical fad is some sort of status race to show off who has the most state of the art doctor...
