I'm not sure if Ray has ever commented on bacteria making Vitamin K, but someone asked Chris Masterjohn why he did not talk about bacteria's contribution to Vitamin K status in his "Ultimate Guide to Vitamin K". His reply was "it probably makes no contribution at all, but if it makes any contribution it is quite small."

I just googled it and this came up: The production of menaquinones (vitamin K2) by intestinal bacteria and their role in maintaining coagulation homeostasis. - PubMed - NCBI

I mean I know my experience and they match pretty well. Perhaps something else is going on. I have always found my gut health is tied to my teeth and testosterone production, and vitamin K seems to fit the roll.

oh also, just did a quick search on Ray's articles, this is from Rosacea, inflammation, and aging: The inefficiency of stress:

Some of the benefit from antibiotics probably results from the reduced endotoxin stress when intestinal bacteria are suppressed. However, antibiotics can kill the intestinal bacteria that produce vitamin K, so it's important to include that in the diet when antibiotics are used.

Here is what is not a healthy balance, but activation of the 2 systems at the same time, also called dissociation, which aims at suppressing what is painful in reality... Unnoticed, at the autonomic nervous system level, on the out of words level of the body.

I am very familiar with how vitamin K feels. It is pretty great, and I tend to get a little bit of a receding hair line. Eating lots of pears lines up really close. Gut bacteria making vitamin K I am guessing. My teeth are also sparkling white these days.

It seems other studies have found the opposite.

Intestinal flora is not an intermediate in the phylloquinone-menaquinone-4 conversion in the rat. - PubMed - NCBI

"Our results demonstrate that the conversion of phylloquinone into MK-4 in extrahepatic tissues may occur in the absence of an intestinal bacterial population and is tissue specific. A specific function for extrahepatic MK-4 or a reason for this biochemical conversion of phylloquinone into MK-4 remains unclear thus far."

Couple updates on what I have been trying.

•Since getting on the HCL train, I decided to add in some enzymes as well. I have really been focusing in on digestion and trying to get that in the best shape possible. Digestion and sleep, the basic pillars to focus on. I have been doing garlic, enzymes, HCL, charcoal, carrot, and vinegar everyday. The enzymes I am using is Wobenzyme. It is actually a systemic enzyme, but you can use it as a digestive one when taken with food. I have also found that when taking it before bed, I sleep better, and have more dreams. Kind of cool. I have also noticed being more flexible and limber since starting to take it.

•I read a great article on "**** portion control," about losing weight and decided to try it. I added B1 and B2, a pinch, to my first two meals of the day. I cannot say I noticed much, and did not lose any weight in the 6 weeks or so that I tried it. B2 is an interesting vitamin. It can hurt my lower back, give me anxiety, and make me a bit strung out all at the same time. I think when my glycogen stops, my body may freak out a bit. However the longer I have done it, the less I notice it. Now I do not notice it at all, so I take it when I remember.

•I have been changing around my diet, trying new fruits, doing more eggs, and when I put different variations in on cronometer, I found that no matter what, I was low on Vitamin E and K. So I have been using Kuinone and Tocovit topically every day. I thought the hair shedding would increase with the vitamin K, but it hasn't really. Also no sleep disturbance so I am going to continue. I have been using the vit E on my face and notice better looking skin.

•Thyroid (TSH around 3.5)has been kind of this rollercoaster where for a couple weeks, it feels great, my bloods sugars are more in control, I have more energy, and then bam, in about a day or two, I feel back to square one. I read a bit of Broda Barnes and surprisingly he found success with most people at 2 grains a day, and some needed 3. This was very suprising as I was only taking 1 grain of NDT and was a bit freaked that I was raising the dosage. I figured, you know if I keep raising the dosage and I get up to 4 or 5 grains, I will worry about it, but as long as I am in the 1-3 range, I will do what feels right. At the moment I take 3/4 grain in the morning, 1/2 grain at lunch, and then a dime sized drop of of Haidut's tyromax in the evening. I may at some point raise my NDT to 3/4 grain at breakfast and lunch.

•I have been able to handle the daily carrot now and WOW, what a difference that makes. I was never able to get on it before as I would literally feel like I was going crazy after a couple days. Well, same thing happen this time, but I let it happen. What it really uncovered was this massive amount of anger I have. Anger and frustration. Ray and others have talked positively about dopamine, but it is definitely not a picnic at times. People close to me, who I normally was fine with, all of a sudden were basically intolerable. Their actions were so frustrating to me. My desires, usually tame and manageable, came roaring back. It was like being transported back to age 18 with video games, porn, and stimulation on the menu...which I resisted. My ability to focus in on something hugely increased, but ironically I had to actually be interested in it, or it became even harder to focus.

I know anti aging is the thing, but being young can be really hard. You have an intensity that can be hard to manage. I would say that the difference this time with carrot verse the old attempts is that I let myself feel what I was going to feel. If I was angry, I would be clear about it and as reasonable as possible. Sometimes, it is not okay to be healthy with the relationships you have. Serotonin makes you easy to be around. You don't make a huge fuss, get along with others, don't make waves. Dopamine though is...lots of waves...For me, with growing up in a divorced home and a single mom etc etc, I think being without desires and going with the flow was expected of me. I was not supposed to pay too close attention or ask for what I wanted, because it threatened to rock the already leaking boat. What this has really taught me is that often being healthy does not mean everyone likes you and you are easy to be around.

•Food has been a bit nuts of late(no nuts though ;)). I have had this ongoing battle with eggs. For about 4 months, I have been doing something like 2-4 eggs with each meal. The whites bothered me, so I switched to 4 yolks per meal, along with fruit. After the carrot, my allergies have been a lot higher. Sneezing a lot. I noticed that when I drank 4 eggs, I would get this sneezing attack, and a rush of adrenaline. I wish I had noticed this sooner, but I may be allergic to eggs. I have tried the last couple days not eating eggs and I think I feel better...Will update more on that. Also doing more MCT oil, the brain octane.

•I am trying this NOW parasite cleanse. Just started a couple days ago and I will update how it goes. I spent some time in India, and never did a parasite cleanse or anything like that, so I figured it was worth a try. •Ever notice you have not seen a picture of Matt Stone in awhile? Well it is because he is fat. Probably feels shame about it too. When I went Peat, back in '14, I did the Matt stone diet and gained up to around 205 from 170 in six months. I pulled way back and slowly gained up to around 225 in another year, and stabilized between 220-225. Being 5'9, you do the math there on BMI. I have felt bad about this. In all my experiments I have not been able to lose weight and I refused to diet or to go hungry. I won't fast, been down that route. When I moved out of EMF hell, there was a bit of a glimmer of hope. I went down to 218 and that is where I have remained for the entire year of 2017. I weigh in maybe once a month, same muscle mass, same water weight, same everything. Sometimes the thyroid would bring me down to 215-216 before I would hit the bottom and gain back a few pounds.

I am down to 213 now, which is somewhat promising. I think it's coming from getting rid of eggs, which if they are an allergen, I have been eating for years. I don't think it is the B1/b2 or the HCL/enzymes, but maybe some combo of the vitamin E, vit K, cutting out eggs, and the extra thyroid. Maybe the MCT oil too. Just being able to sleep through the whole night because of no EMF lets me experiment with all these supplements. If I was still in my apartment, the vit E and b2 would rob me of all sleep and that would be that. I would also be taking Niacinamide everyday and fattening up all over. B3 can be great, but it makes everything expel its glycogen for use. Overtime, it is my understanding, your body will store fat in those areas that do not have much glycogen. Glycogen storage is such an interesting topic, and could be an indicator of health all on its own if it could be measured properly.

I wanted to put this in about weight, and be up front about it, because I think it is easy to seem successful in some way on the net, and hide your mistakes and things that are not working. If I am reading someone's log and they are just saying about all the things that work, I really do not have the whole picture. We really need to be upfront so we can get proper feedback on what is working and what is not. So for me, being overweight is a battle I have been dealing with since starting on the Peat road. Now...being emaciated was a battle I was dealing with before Peat, you can scroll up for pictures of that.

Been going through some crazy stuff body wise. Just a quick update.

•While doing the Now parasite cleanse, I got a flu like thing going on, probably from the endotoxin of dying bugs. In addition, my blood sugars were freaken solid as all get out while on the cleanse. I am not sure exactly what it did, but my blood sugars were basically a stable line at 100. This went away after going off the Now formula. So I decided to try Artemisinin and Artemisia. Well I got sick again, this time much more strongly. I was sick to my stomach, high fever with chills, headache. And it lasted like a week. In fact, I still have somewhat of a headache. There is something to wormwood and it being able to help with auto immune, but I cannot get sick anymore for awhile. Maybe I will revisit it. I would like to have those super stable blood sugars again, but going through the sickness doesnt seem worth.

• I am down to 201 lbs. I have basically lost 20 lbs. I look noticeably thinner. No doubt, being sick twice is partially why I have lost weight, but it is also something that has shifted within me. I am not really sure what did it, I was blasting my guts with carrot, garlic, MCTs, charcoal, and wormwood. Something shifted and the weight seems to be just easily coming off. I have also had cravings for different things. The shrimp I was eating seems gross now, although I have enough left that I am forcing it down. Orange juice seems wonderfully tasty, along with ice cream. I am very confused about what all is going on, but things seem to be moving in the right direction. It has been several years since I was this weight.

•Naturthorid is out of stock, along with Westhroid, for the forseeable future. I have shifted to Haidut's tyromix and tyromax. I do a bit of both, three times a day. I should be more exact with my thyroid dosage, but with all the weight I am losing and being sick, my daily regiment has been topsy turvey. As of now it is: Thyroid each meal, kuinone/tocovit/vitD topical in the morning, b1/b2 mixture with two meals, HCL with each meal, Wobenzyme with each meal, Ceylon Cinnamon in the morning, Charcoal between breakfast and lunch, and Camu Camu in the morning.

I'm glad to read that things are working out for you Tarmander.

Reading through your log I noticed that both our bodies seemed to follow the same pattern in our quest to heal our metabolisms. Even our highest BMI was basically the same. I discovered Peat in the fall of 2013 and something shifted late 2016-early 2017 and I lost 30 pounds. It seemed to take forever but I'm glad I trusted my body and gave it time. It's nice that you shared your experience. You're one of the few people that's written about it in such detail and didn't go back to restrictive dieting. Thanks

Cooked egg protein appears to be digested very well. This has been show in vitro by using pepsin and trypsin followed by gel electrophoresis on the hydrolysate. The size of the protein pieces can be visualized this way, and they are small. Cooked egg breaks down quickly, so much so that an 'egg allergy' would seem puzzling (I will look into this further, someday). While true that an egg white protein is a trypsin inhibitor, this effect is largely nullified by cooking—in addition to most of the egg's biotin‐binding affinity. However, the yolks are around 15–20% linoleic acid (as a percentage of total lipids.) This linoleic acid could increase prostaglandin D₂ flux, which is involved in asthma.

Although I don't eat it, I'm getting the impression that beef is healthier than eggs (through less versatile, less convenient, and more expensive).

Eggs from tallow‐fed chickens were found to have ~8% linoleic acid, so chicken‐diet does plays a role, but I don't think you can even buy eggs like this. This could be another niche market, similar to the proposed platinum‐catalyzed hydrogenated coconut oil (besides nickel, platinum is also a good catalyst for molecular hydrogenation—and nontoxic!)

Thanks for reading Blossom. Do you feel like you have healed your metabolism at this point? I definitely have not gone back to restrictive eating, although I also ditched the whole over eating thing too. I remember I took the re-feeding thing to heart when I first started reading Peat/Stone/youreatopia. I ate so much ice cream. I loved it, but I think I overstuffed myself. I also think it probably increased endotoxin from being so stuffed. Looking back, maybe I could have avoided that...but maybe not eh?

I also have found that fat gives you an emotional shield. Being overweight helps defend you against certain types of people. A big part of this whole journey for me has been learning how to be weak and not give in to demands to be strong. When someone is scared, and shares that with you, they feel better because you take some of the worry on. It seems like I was born into a situation where someone was needed to take on other people's anxieties and crap. Having extra fat makes that easier. Getting rid of the fat makes it harder for those other people and their worries. So losing weight for me in part meant telling the truth to the bone....as in telling people who are close to you that you don't approve, don't agree, dislike, don't want to deal with whatever it is they are asking you to carry for them.

Do you think maybe the sulfur in eggs made a difference? I remember doing my genetics years ago and seeing that I had some mutations on the CBS snips, indicating some differing metabolism of sulfur.

Another thought is that I was not doing egg whites, I was doing egg yolks raw...somewhere between 6-12 per day. It was much easier to do them raw then cook them all the time. Thank you for reading Travis!

Mostly. I still need thyroid but in hindsight I probably needed it most of my life and maybe could have avoided some other issues had my thyroid issues been recognized and treated decades earlier.

My lowest BMI was in the 17 range and that happened twice between ages 38 and 43 so I think I needed the refeed and even though it was hard I don't regret it. I think the whole experience taught me how to finally take care of myself physically, mentally, emotionally and surprisingly even spiritually. I guess you really get to know your core self when going through all those changes and living in a body doesn't even closely resemble anything familiar.

The only time I have cold feet now is when I'm out walking in the snow. I can pretty much tolerate eating anything besides gluten these days but I do watch my pufa intake.

Yeah, I guess compared to 2013 I'm doing much better. I've been able to do some things in the last year that I couldn't do 10 years ago like work 12 hour nights and mend some important relationships. I've been able to ask for what I need, set boundaries, forgive and move on. I was so weak at one point that I barely functioned due to so called CFS but now I'm pretty sure I'm at least as capable as most other people my age and more capable than I was at 28-30.

Sorry for the book. The healing took time and it kind of sneaks up on you. I plan on continuing to maintain and improve upon what I've worked so hard to achieve though.

I'm so glad things are coming together for you. The 3-4 year window seems meaningful in Peat circles. There was some prior discussion about it being the typical time frame for pufa depletion so maybe that's part of the change you and I both noticed?

I definitely have not gone back to restrictive eating, although I also ditched the whole over eating thing too. I remember I took the re-feeding thing to heart when I first started reading Peat/Stone/youreatopia. I ate so much ice cream. I loved it, but I think I overstuffed myself. I also think it probably increased endotoxin from being so stuffed. Looking back, maybe I could have avoided that...but maybe not eh?

I also have found that fat gives you an emotional shield. Being overweight helps defend you against certain types of people. A big part of this whole journey for me has been learning how to be weak and not give in to demands to be strong. When someone is scared, and shares that with you, they feel better because you take some of the worry on. It seems like I was born into a situation where someone was needed to take on other people's anxieties and crap. Having extra fat makes that easier. Getting rid of the fat makes it harder for those other people and their worries. So losing weight for me in part meant telling the truth to the bone....as in telling people who are close to you that you don't approve, don't agree, dislike, don't want to deal with whatever it is they are asking you to carry for them.



Do you think maybe the sulfur in eggs made a difference? I remember doing my genetics years ago and seeing that I had some mutations on the CBS snips, indicating some differing metabolism of sulfur.

Well, the yolk appears totally 100% hypoallergenic. Although cooked egg white seems to be digested well, people do have antibodies to the ovomucoid protein—the same one which inhibits trypsin:

Järvinen, K‐M. "Specificity of IgE antibodies to sequential epitopes of hen's egg ovomucoid as a marker for persistence of egg allergy." Allergy (2007)

'Allergic reactions are more frequently elicited by egg white proteins than egg yolk (10).' ―Järvinen

'However, ovomucoid has been shown to be the dominant allergen (15, 16), with ovotransferrin and lysozyme being less important (17).' ―Järvinen

'The importance of ovomucoid may be due to its unique characteristics such as relative stability against heat (20) and digestion with proteinases (19), and its strong allergenicity (15) compared with other egg white components.' ―Järvinen

This author sees digestive resistance and allergenicity as separate concepts. I would guess this is correct, but they are related. Proteins that break down completely cannot become allergens since they must be over about ~8 amino acids to be allergens.

'Ovomucoid is a 28 kDa glycoprotein comprised of 186 amino acids (AAs) arranged in three tandem domains containing nine intra-domain, but no inter-domain, disulfide bonds and five carbohydrate side-chains (20, 21). Utilizing pooled human sera from egg-allergic patients, five IgE and seven IgG-antibody binding sites have been identified dispersed along the three domains (22).' ―Järvinen

The allergenic protein has intramolecular disulfide bonds, meaning that it's redox active. Free electrons can reduce disulfide bonds—breaking them apart as they become two thiols. So not only is cooking temperature an issue, pH could play a role.. .

Although alkali doesn't seem very good in an omelet, it's hard to argue against this data. Sodium bicarbonate is salty, and the carbonate could potentially be released as carbon dioxide—adding even more volume to an omelet!

And there has been some talk about sourdough bacteria modifying the gluten proteins, so making foods less allergenic through processing techniques is not a new idea:

Your experience rings true with my own. Getting stronger and being able to say no seem to be part and parcel with healing. I understand also being weak. Weak does not seem to be a physical thing so much as the inability to do what is good for you. I have felt physically weak a few times in the last few months, and during each time I just rested, and did not actually feel weak...I just knew I needed rest and that was fine. I am not sure if Pufa depletion plays a huge role. Probably a bit. But I did consume a lot of egg yolks which have some pufa. However I am not longer eating regular potato chips and other canola filled goodness. So perhaps it does play a roll. I have definitely consumed more sat fat.

I think there might be something about focusing on stress and ways to lower it. Reading Ray, and then orienting yourself towards how he describes health...it is a bit magical. You slow down and things just start coming together. You avoid things that give some type of temporary feeling of health and batten down for the long haul.

I have also found that the more I have moved towards health, the more I have moved towards the basic philosophical underpinnings to Christianity. We have free will and we are only moral when we choose that which is good. You cannot be a slave and be forced into morality, you need free will. Free will is an emerging phenomenon when we think "slowly." You need to chew things over and come to a decision when you exercise free will, not just react to a ball being thrown at you. We can only think "slowly" when we are relaxed and at ease. So you need relaxation, and low stress, to make free will decisions, and therefore make virtuous decisions. Something like that. Anyways. I am glad I have written this log and put down some of my experience to see progress. Thank you again for reading.
