Been experiencing shortness of breath, a very smart constant anxiety, depression for the past 2 years. Eating basically anything will make these symptoms worse but mostly carbs, sodas or eating to much. I noticed I store alot of visceral fat I'm 32 5 9 about 210 and my upper midsection is a tad prominent. After eating I get bad bloating there and I think alot of my anxiety and issues breathing stem from bloating interfering with my diaphragm or something similar. All these years I'm thinking how to calm down my anxiety and possably use thyroid medication etc but maybe it's digestion or a cardio issue, sibo or gut bacteria. I know it's weird but in the mornings I feel improved not fully better but alot improved I'm guessing because I haven't eaten any food contributing to digestion and bloating issues and or feeding bad gut bacteria that could cause anxiety issues on top of it all. Also it's uncomfortable laying on my left side feels like my heart is suphocating. I also remember that I was homeless for 10 days a year ago and as crazy as it sounds I haven't felt that good in a while because I had to go to soup kitchens and eat vegtables and what they gave me there so I ended up losing some weight and I was feeling better. I'm no doctor but I just feel like I need someone to tell me what my main issue is or if it sounds like a possable medical issue or someone to elaborate on all this

Sounds pretty typical of endotoxin/general bad gut health. Tons of topics on the forum related to this you could dive into. I'd guess something you are eating is bothering your gut. Could you think about what meals you were fed at the soup kitchen and try recreate them at home and see how you get on?

It was your mention of when you were homeless, feeling miles better that intrigued me. I have also had this experience of almost complete removal of ill symptoms upon being in a time of uncertainty. Although my diet became filled with irritants/potentially harmful additives & my environmental stressors increased (because of events out of my control) I felt better than I had since becoming ill. My theory, though I'm not sold on it, is that the body stops trying to heal and or purge toxins or pathogens because of the potential for a situation arising where one would need to be able to function optimally. Upon returning to normality, for me being a safe, low stress place where I can consume nutritious foods.. Symptoms shortly began to return. It does seem common for people to become unwell after the cessation of, but not during partaking in some form of unhealthy habit. Leading me to believe that healing of certain ills is just damn unpleasant.

Who tf knows tho? :S Not me

Go to hormonesmatter.com and check out Dr. Lonsdale's articles. They explain how these preconditions (carb excess, eating too much "empty" calories; he calls it high calorie malnutrition) can lead to that symptoms (shortness of breath, depression, anxiety, impaired digestion). Glucose metabolism requires thiamine. But when you eat high carb foods that don't contain (enough of) it themselves, you will induce a thiamine deficiency by that. The consequenses can be dyspnea, pseudo-hypoxia and dysautonomia. Of course, I can't tell for sure. But some things you wrote really reminded me of what I read in Dr. Lonsdale's articles the last few days:

Dysautonomia and Hypoxia- Hormones Matter
Dyspnea, Air Hunger, and Molecular Oxygen Consumption- Hormones Matter
Depression, Anxiety, and the Chronically Hypoxic Brain- Hormones Matter

I think if you start practicing bag breathing, you will feel much better very soon. Eating a teaspoon of baking soda on an empty stomach a couple of times a day can help. You sound like a classic case of chronic hyperventilation which creates and is a result of great stress and results in low carbon dioxide levels in the body.

Sleeping on your left side creates a feeling of your hunger suffocation because when you sleep on your left side you don’t hyperventilate as much. Your carbon dioxide Capnostat is not used to that.

If sugar is the worst perpetrator of your symptoms, then you are probably feeding a serious case of SIBO. I would go all-out on a gut cleanse or try antibiotics or something similar.

Interesting take. I wonder if simply takign theanine could resolve this, if it's true?

I think having a fast metabolism, as Peat generally recommends, can cause you to breath more heavily. Listen to his interviews and you notice he takes frequent deep breaths.

What would cause someone to develop this hyperventilation syndrome ? Low carbon dioxide levels could be part of it. I was thinking that as another peraonwntioned is that I probably have SIBO. It does feel like something is wearing me right out and carbs and diet make things worse. I get bad bloating after eating. I want to take antibiotics for this. And than suppliment with a probiotic but I have no clue whatsoever if a doctor even knows what sibo is or if he would even prescribe an antibiotic

That's exactly what I think it is is SIBO. The gases released causing bloating I'm sure can cause hyperventilation and I'm sure the bad bacteria overgrowth or yeast affects your bloodstream and your brain and anxiety and an antsy depression and fatigue can happen. That's my best guess. Would a doctor even understand what sibo is? I want to try an antibiotic and than pro and prebiotics to fix the flora. I have no clue if a doctor will help me with an antibiotic or which one to take for this.

You are suffering from SIBO.

Take Ox Bile and feel free to read my threads on it.

Ox Bile helps with digestion, and has anti-bacterial effect but probably won't be nearly as strong as penicillin or tetracycline. You can order these antibiotics as fish medicine. I do.

Or you can go the natural route and do one of @Hans gut cleanse protocols on his website. I've been trying it for about a week and am pleased with the results, I feel much calmer and more clear-headed already. It involves a lot of herbal supplements which can be pricey but in the end I think it's well worth it.

I had gut issues which looked like SIBO and thought that fruit fibre may have been feeding bacteria this side of the ileocecal valve!

I cut down on some of my fibre intake by removing prunes.

Since many vegetable oils are antibiotic, I added 3 teaspoons of desiccated coconut to my banana, OJ and berry smoothies.

I also added a dressing of salt, olive oil and balsamic vinegar to lettuce, arugula or kale.

I added a beer most evenings to kill any remaining SIBO!

And a few peppermints with real peppermint oil throughout the day to keep my bacteria guessing!

My digestion is great now.

These are some tasty and low cost things you could try!

(I also eat beef, cheese, eggs and yeast extract (vegemite)).

Do you know a good safe source of ox bile?

As I said, it's the strongest natural antibiotic I've ever tried, on par with Rx antibiotics.
The beauty is that it also curbs fungi and parasites, unlike Rx abx.

Beer is good for SIBO?
Can you fill me in on this, I'm genuinely interested.

Doctor wants to try me on a proton pump inhibitor for a month and is sending me to a gastro specialist. He's sending me to someone for my low testosterone. I could probably get patches to boost it but I don't want to screw up my normal levels and shut off my go Nads. Who knows what to do. Where can I buy a quality ox bile suppliment?

Hi TheBeard.

Alcohol in general kills bacteria, whether it is from beer, wine, gin, cider etc.

I assume it kills some of the bacteria in your digestive system before it is absorbed. This should be upstream of the large intestine, which is where SIBO is a problem.

Even if alcohol can damage the brain and the liver and cause other issues, I feel safer drinking beer than turpentine.

In non-Muslim countries it is easier to access alcohol than antibiotics.

However you don’t need alcohol to kill excess bacteria. You can use garlic, raw carrot, dietary levels of essential oils etc.

Eg. Cinnamon In vitro antibacterial activity of some plant essential oils

Just keep under 1/4 teaspoon per day.
