    I found some yesterday...ingredients say:

    organic milk, organic sugar

Is this an ok snack over crushed ice? Did I die and go to heaven with this discovery?

Pls. don't say it's bad.

It is good. It is so very, very good. [IMG]

    Better if shared, yes.

I sometimes use it to make Coffee Gelatin

Only downside is that it's, uhm, fattening. :(

Oh I'm so happy it's good! LOL

We used to eat snowballs drenched with sweetened condensed milk on top when we were little. Now I'll just skip the syrup on the snowball, and just eat crushed ice with the milk.

The fat content isn't that high....why would it be considered fattening?

My can says, 2 TB is 130 kcal and has 3 g of fat.
By comparison, 2 TB of coffee HD ice cream is 68 kcal and has 4.5 g of fat.

Love 'em both and they love me.

A while ago I think I read something about oxidized cholestrol in those sorts of milk products. Might have been powdered milk though.

mmmm...snowballs. It seems like it would be inevitable that some oxidation would occur in the evaporation process, but probably less so in condensed milk than in powdered/dry milk where they further process the milk in a high temperature spray dryer.

There is probably BPA in the condensed milk can, but between that and a few micrograms of oxidized cholesterol, these things probably aren't worth stressing over as a once-in-a-while treat.

No white lining in the cans...at least not the generic brands I've used.

It make a great Thai style ice tea. ;)

No white lining in mine either.
The tea sounds delish. Now to go get blissfully lost in your blog.

Nothing better than Key Lime pie...1 can of condensed milk , key lime juice 1/3 to 1/2 cup of key lime juice to your taste and mix til thick, pour into a pie shell or desert dishes and chill in the frig, top with lime zest or whipped cream ...Can not possibly be as bad as commercial ice cream with anti freeze??? and ten other ingredients you can not pronounce or spell.....

I think condensed milk is often made out of powdered milk. It gave me headaches, as did yogurt from powdered milk. If you can drink it ok though, it is a good source of convenient calories and calcium.

And I was sad that I went to the supermarket and rejected all the condensed milk that they carry. It has vegetable oils (softspeak for PUFAs), carageenan, guar gum. There isn't one brand free from it. And the best evaporated milk I could find, which has no PUFAs, still contains carageenan.
