After 4 years of chronic hair shedding I have finally got it under control. Unfortunately no signs of regrow yet after a month. Thanks to red sun who pointed out the poor glutathione system in thalessimia trait people, along with generally high Oxidative stress for many reasons, I started taking
- glycine
- folate
- acetyl l carnitine ( I know it’s not a forum favourite but have read on thalassemia forums it helps, maybe because we possibly have low NO.
- coq10
- vitamin E (was already taking)

not sure which of these is working but my shedding has reduced drastically, I’m eating less and am losing weight as I’m not forcing calories down when I’m not hungry, and generally feeling better. Also managed to reduce my t3 dose for the past few weeks.

but about a month in I’ve gotten tooth aches in at least 3 different places almost simultaneously, with a minor ache one other tooth. I’ve always had great dental health strangely, considering the little effort I put in. I am 26 and have never had a filling or any problems.

wondering if there is a possible link?

Intestinal irritation/endotoxins can cause tooth aches and nerve aches. Too low calcium and/or mg, bad D /A balance, low K2 can all cause issues as well. Aspirin can be helpful and perhaps novamin toothpaste, if you like commercial toothpastes.

I agree with this.

ugh kinda. I find taking a lot of supplements long term expensive and annoying.

the way i judge my hair shed is how many hairs come loose when i run my hand through my hair and when i shower. when its really bad its at least 7, and 300 hairs in the shower. when its best its 0 and a few hairs (50ish) in the shower. right now its 2 or 3 and 50ish shower.

so basically still shedding, but its more or less as good as it gets for me
