Hi Everyone,

I have been scouring the forums and have been researching solutions for the following health problems for many years, but I just can't seem to find a solution that works yet. Caffeine seems to actually be the most promising thing I have found yet. That along with the added supportive supplements that go along with it like Aspirin, Vitamin K, Taurine, etc.

Has anyone had any luck finding very good solutions to the following health problems?

All of these seem to come and go over the years, ever since I was a kid. Sometimes I do great, and sometimes the health problems come full boar. (One exception, hair loss has been gradual)

Core Issues:

Asthma (A lot due to stress/anxiety/hyperventilation/chest tighness)
Erectile Dysfunction (Related to Hypertonic Pelvic Floor somewhat along with PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, performance anxiety, porn use)
Anxiety/Depression

Related/Other:

Hypertonic Pelvic Floor
Hair Loss (Related to stress and hormone imbalances?
Cold Sores (Occasionally, these are well controlled now)
Small amounts of acne
PTSD - (I think I have a minor PTSD from an intense father)
ADHD
Fatigue
Poor Sleep (For some reason it has gotten better since I started Adderal)
Heart Burn
Acid Reflux/Heart Burn (I still can’t grasp the difference) – Related to chest tightness from anxiety/stress.
Restlesness (anxiety/stress)

They all seem to be linked to stress but no matter how much meditation, QiGong, working out and eating vegan, paleo, whatever else, I can't seem to find a solution to these problems that really works well over the long term.

I think if I lived out in a mountain town, some of these symptoms would get better due to less stress, simpler life style, but I am not in position to do that yet.

Has anyone gone from a stressful life style to a less stressful one and noticed a positive difference in their health?

Here are recent test results I have had:

Currently Single: However, ED has gotten a bit better when I have a Girlfriend. But Adderall was an inhibitor to this in a past relationship and I will likely have to get off of this one. Unless there is a chance it will normazlie after 3 Months. I hate Adderall, it is very helpful for focus/motivation. But maybe 1000mg coffee will be just as good. I am hopeful about this.

Here are some meds I have been taking:

Lamotrogine 200mg/day - For Depression (Helps with Mood) Anxiety is better also
Cialis 10mg/day
Recently started Adderall (20mg/day) for 6th time over past decade - makes ED worse but helps with ability to be present and focused. I may have to drop this ***t.

As needed:
Propranonol 20mg
Clonezapam .5mg
Albuterol Inhaler
Zlaplon (Sonota) 10mg

I have been on and off the above medications for over a decade. I have been on and off other asthma meds, other anti-depressant, etc. I have tried a lot in this category.
Have taken Viagra/sildanifil in the past, that works fine, but would prefer a natural approach.

Here are some life-style things I am currently doing:
QiGong Meditation 1-2 hours daily
Walking, pushups, planks, building up slowly
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Looking at moving to Colorado
Got a Berkey Water filter on the way to reduce toxins from drinking tons of tap water over the years.
Cutting back slowly on porn/masturbation, getting back to total abstinence. Had 90 days clean before recent relapse.
Upping my caffeine intake to get to about 1000mg/day. Started yesterday, before that, I was off caffeine for several months.
Plant Based/Vegan with some vegetarian days when required socially.
Green smoothies, spinach, arugula
Pea protein smoothies, honey, fruit, flax seed, chia seeds.
Beet, carrot, kiwi, lemon apple juice
Celery Juice in the morning
Oatmeal with honey, cinnamon and cooked apples every morning
Eating vegetables, potatoes, bean soup, cauliflower/broccoli coconut milk curry.
Cashews.
Cut out peanut butter, dairy.
Maybe I am not getting enough calories? But I don’t lose weight so it is confusing.
Working with a urologist, said testosterone was normal. Said he does not think this is a physical problem with the reproductive organs. Prescribed Cialis and sex therapist.
Started therapy session with sex therapist.
Starting Buteyko breathing again, been doing this on and off for the past decade, so hard to keep up with it though with the rigorous exercise and breath holds for up to an hour every day. So wondering if there is another cause than just the CO2?
As suggested by my urologist, I have set up an appointment with primary care doctor to test thyroid, maybe hypothyroid? Test thyroid and TSH.
Just started experimenting with Coconut Oil again for the nTH time. Using it on hair, face, going to use as deodorant and apply to skin.
Also going to use rosemary oil and biotin on scalp with a derma roller.
I am going to discontinue washing my body, face or hair with anything other than tap water. I am going to look for an all natural hair gel as well.
I am going to use coconut oil for toothpaste and see what other options there are to reduce toxicity.
I am going to take cool showers and build up to cold showers.
I live on a busy street and right next to a gas station, so that’s just more pollution, but even growing up I had these issues living in suburban neighborhoods. Although we did have lots of cats running around. ?
Going to see a physical therapist for Hypertonic Pelvic Floor
Starting my exercise routine again and working my way up to HIIT and weight lifting. Starting small for now.
May start oil pulling.
Going to get a walking treadmill for while I work from home.
Taking my temperature upon waking and throughout the day. (today between 66-97 in morning)
Going to learn about Hypo-Thyroidism Diets
Going to reduce PUFAs, although I don’t think I eat a lot of these already.
Cook more with coconut oil, currently use Olive Oil.
Sit-stand desk.
Getting a solid bed time routine down.
Solid morning routine down.
Trying to socialize as best I can, but a lot more isolation for me during covid and all my friends family are mostly moved away.

Supplements I have been taking or I am starting on now that I read through the forums on here:
Having been taking:

Vitamin D 20,000 IU /day
Vitamin K2 1000mg
Digestive Enzyme Formula with most meals
Gas-X with most meals
Ashwaganda Serum 700mg
Natto-Serra
Zinc 50mg
L-Lysine 1500mg/day (this may actually be working, I don’t get cold sores that often so I can’t say for sure)
CO Q-10 100mg/day
Turmeric & Ginger Capsults wit hBioperine 1950mg
OneADay Ments Multi-Vitamin
B-Complex & Vitamin C from Trader Joe’s (Is this shitty quality I should reconsider?
Maca Powder
L-Citruline

Starting:

Caffeine, working up to 1000mg per day
Aspirin: 325/day
DHEA 50mg
Selenium 200mcg
Iron 65mg/day (Should I up this one?)
Irwin Naturals Liver Detox MAX
Magnesium 400mg/day (should I up this one)
Started 1200 IU of Vitamin E (it says it’s a mix of d-alpha tocopheral with d-gamma, d-delta, d-beta tocopherols) Is this the wrong vitamin E to be taking for asthma and ED? Brand 365.
Rubbing 400mg Vitamin E on penis directly twice per day.

Likely going to order from Amazon that I will start taking:

Gamma E 1200mg/day
Calcium: 1200mg/day
GABA: 750mg/day
Glycine: 1g/day
Inositol Powder
Niacinamide: 500mg/day
L-Theanine (with coffe): 200-600mg
Taruine: 1000mg/day (with coffee)
Caffeine Pills (1000mg – coffee amount)
Tongkat Ali
Progesterone Cream???
Iodine: 12.5mg/day
Pregnenolone biomarix, 2.4mg doses
Licorice Root
Nettle Root

Here are things I have tried:

Quitting Porn for a year – helped mildly with ED, but anxiety and stress and other dietary problems still made this an issue. I watched porn a lot since I was 14 until about 5 years ago. Sometimes up to 4 hours at a time.
Yoga, helped some with stress but still had social anxiety/performance anxiety, general anxiety
Years of traditional therapy
Spiritual Work
Self Help Work
Lots of different kinds of meditation
Lots of supplements, did not notice a difference
Mega dosing Vitamin C
Mega dosing Vitamin D 20K IU to 50K IU per day with K2 (
Tribulus Extract (did not notice a noticeable effect for ED)
3 raw garlic cloves daily for a few weeks
Every asthma medication out there, and they work, but my asthma comes and goes, what the heck? That means there must be a natural way I can treat this. Is Buteyko my only choice?
Quit my job to golf most of this summer, was still stressed.

If most of these are stress related, has anyone found anything that is by far the most effective way to reduce stress? Certain lifestyle or certain combined behaviors? Any physiological things I can work on that will directly combat the stress hormonally? Do I need to become a body builder? A light cardio person?

Thanks for you help with this!

How old are you?

get out of the self improvement rabbit hole mentally

IDK why you are taking this much stuff, how is your body supposed to find equilibrium like this. your bloods are ok

it's common for young men who end up here to end up outsourcing all of their psychological problems into physiological protocols.

randomly starting things like aspirin, dhea, minerals is stupid af

I am a 35 year old male. Yes, I realize I am going extreme/crazy at this point but its just out of a willingness to figure out a way to heal and live a better life.

what if thats your core problem
I definitely see your point. And at the risk of sounding completely ignorant, what would you change if you were in a situation like this to be less extreme/crazy about becoming healthy?

Obviously I have some ideas of what this should look like on paper, but I am just curious to hear your perspective from the outside.

I used to party it up, drink all the time, eat crap, go through one bad relationship after another, accumulate the health problems I listed above, do some drugs, spend lots of money, etc.

I found that living like everyone else around me made me miserable and I have really wanted to find a better way to rise above all of that.

You need to reconnect/adapt to your environment in a better way. Basically, you are trying to thrive but your protocol is pure cope.

throw your supplements in the trash except for some uncontroversial ones that you know you need and have a record of helping you.
don't be impatient. use food, sleep, movement and be extremely careful about everything else
figure out what you want and be okay with not getting there
don't clinge on your appearance (difficult I know)

I have a similar background, except that I do not want to rise above my environment, I just want to stay lowkey and live an easy/comfortable life

even one of those supplements might be causing your asthma through intestinal irritation. Ray said he knew people with allergies which stopped once they stopped taking all supplements. I would cut all supplements, check your vitamin D and PTH levels (these two alone will tell you a lot), try to drink a lot of milk and eat cheese, try to minimize or stop eating starch, drink a lot of Oj, eat eggs and oysters

That makes sense. It does seem really hard to know what supplements are worthwhile. There is so much contradicting research in these forums.

I do agree that the basics (sleep, food, movement) are at the core of being healthy, and I do pretty well with those, but I noticed that some of the health problems mentioned above like ED still did not go away even with the healthy life style, so I have been in search of answers.

The biggest thing for me is dealing with the chronic inherent stress which is basically PTSD. There is constant tension between my pelvic floor and up through my chest. So I will start implementing stretching routines but was also hoping to find a natural diet or supplements that will help with some of the hormonal issues related to stress.

Yes I agree, living low key with an easy and comfortable life is a great way to go. I have already simplified my life quite a bit but I need to do this even more. I may have to transition into a new career in the next few years as well to reduce my stress level.

Yep this is true, but the thing that gets me is I have been on and off supplements for the past 10 years. I feel like almost all of them have not made any difference for me. Its like I don't get how all these research studies show noticeable effects above placebo and yet when I take the supplements I show nothing.

The high doses of caffeine seem promising along with the aspirin. I remember when I read about Max Gerson that he would suggest coffee enemies to help the liver detoxify.

I have had my vitamin D checked in the past and it is always fine. I have an appointment with my primary doc next week, I'll try to convince him to let me get a PTH test.

I like the cheese recommendation a lot.

The starch is a good one as well. Do you have any idea why starchy foods are bad for asthma? I didn't realize the oatmeal I am eating every day is high in starch. I have cut out all breads and pastas though.

Can the Orange Juice be from a store or does it have to be fresh squeezed?

I'll give the eggs another shot. Is this because it has cholesterol and protein to act as building blocks?

The problem with high dose caffeine is it may make stress worse, but if you can handle it then it should be ok. The adhd symptom you have is an indicator that theres some sort of calcium problem going on, maybe you can increase calcium a bit more? maybe milk with the coffee. If you are in america, I would reccomend uncle matts organic OJ (if you can afford it). Its by far the best store bought OJ I have found. I used to get asthma symptoms, and almost always they get better if I either drink Oj (or get my blood sugar up) or if I have good bowel movements. Asthma is extremely related to intestinal irritants, and starches are almost always some sort of irritant if your already in poor health. 100% of breads in the store are horribly made, so thats out of the question. Most oats are cross contaminated with gluten, corn has lots of mycotoxins, potatos can be allergenic. And the starch molecule itself can feed bacteria, which increases serotonin and asthma symptoms. White rice is the only semi safe one in my own opinion, but even that can cause problems with bacteria. You should view foods like eggs, oysters as supplements. If you eat a couple eggs a week, and oysters once every week or two, youll cover most vitamins and minerals that arn't present in dairy and OJ and meats. Also if you get nutritional or brewers yeast, and boil some water, then put a tablespoon in the water and let the material drop to the bottom, if you drink that water itll be like a b vitamin supplement because the Bs are water soluble. I would avoid the sediment that falls to the bottom because its allergenic.

Drop starches and pufa, of course. Try lifting weights to burn off PUFA via your muscles (sounds unsciencey but is essentially true). Stop all supplements except allithiamine and magnesium oil. Those are the foundations for your cellular energy, and the only things that ever worked for me for more than a day. Have good, life affirming thoughts. Fake it til you make it is incredibly real and powerful. Why not be positive? What has being negative and worrying all the time ever done for you? **** it. You're awesome. Rock it. Fake it til you make it. This all sounds ridiculous, but I believe in it, so do what you want with it. You're not hopeless. You'll feel really good again some day. I promise.

There's so much there I cannot fathom how you can figure out what's working and what's not. There are two TSH numbers; TSH sensitive @ 4.70 and also TSH @ 1.97. What's "TSH sensitive"? You list symptoms that fit with hypothyroidism. You list symptoms of high estrogen. These two issues tend to go together. Both get worse with ingesting PUFA. Olive oil has PUFA. Just stop using it, stick with coconut oil and butter.

Asthma goes with high estrogen. Lower the estrogen, the asthma resolves. At least it worked this way for me. Allergies go with low blood sugar. Low blood sugar goes with low thyroid. High free fatty acids block the burning of sugar by the mitochondria so in effect the high free fatty acids result in the same symptoms as low blood sugar.

Poor muscle tone and poor quality connective tissue goes with hypothyroidism.

I don't see how 2.4 mg of pregnenolone will help anybody. I just upped mine to 1/4 teaspoon/daily, but I'm 71.

You are taking very strange exotic things PLUS pretty scary pharmaceuticals. These can kill you.

The only way to take iodine safely is to surround it inside a natural desiccated thyroid tablet. These tablets have the correct amount of iodine already attached to the thyroid hormone molecules. Taking additional iodine blocks thyroid function.

In addition, taking caffeine blocks thiamine function.

Low thyroid function and low thiamine function = disastrous mitochondrial function = the root of serious health issues. Focus on your mitochondrial health. Seriously investigate thyroid health. See this search: Programmable Search Engine Read up. Take control of your health via improving your knowledge.

Thiamine function is a really big deal. It gets blocked by pharmaceutical drugs. It gets block by caffeine. Read up: Programmable Search Engine

Dr. Peat doesn't say a lot about thiamine specifically. This video can be a helpful place to start: However, keep in mind that thiamine and healthy sugars are a balancing act. Refer to Ray Peat's work on sugar: Programmable Search Engine Sugar isn't the bad guy. You need to be able to burn it to have a healthy metabolism. You need thiamine to do that. Too much refined sugar will deplete your supply of thiamine.

Your diet is killing you. You need to back WAY up and analyze what exactly you are doing to yourself. Your diet alone is damaging your thyroid function, and your liver function. It is highly estrogenic. There's almost no usable protein that your liver needs to detox your body of estrogen etc. Start with this article: Vegetables, etc.Who Defines Food?

Okay, thank you, I read this one. So it seems that I need get a lot more good quality proteins. So I am starting with cheese and I also make pea protein powder shakes. If I make two of those per day, I can get to 100g/day just from the shakes.

I can go back to eating meat again if that is what it takes. What would you recommend?

I already eat a lot of fruit and will continue to do so. Any thoughts on what fruits are best?

Any other specific foods you would recommend I eat or do not eat that I can try?

This is where I get really confused on all of the conflicting information. @haidut said that caffeine is one of the best hacks you can use to optimize liver function and restore it to normal. If that is happening, then all of the hormones, including stress hormones, should have a better chance of balancing to appropriate levels. Unless I am misunderstanding what he wrote? He said he was up to 1000mg/day at certain points.

I have been off and on coffee for years, I constantly hear conflicting information. I would prefer to be on it, with cream and sugar, and several huge cups of it throughout the day. I just need some ways of reducing the jitters and racing thoughts that happen occasionally which sounds like aspirin, vitamin K and L-theanine/taurine can help with.

Okay I'll check out the Matts Organic orange juice. I have been off of OJ for many years. I love it and would prefer to be able to just go to a store and buy it and then drink a lot of it throughout the day, rather than having to juice it all fresh on my own. Although I have done that as well. However, I will say that OJ does feel like it makes my stomach very acidic and may be cause heart burn so I'll have to experiment with this. Is there anything I can do with my diet to counteract the acidity of orange juice or prevent heart burn?

I have cut out just about every grain and bread I can think of, but I will also cut out oats, potatoes, and corn.

I may have to consider keeping white rice and beans though, what else am I suppose to eat if I am cutting out all of these staples?

Are beans/lentils okay for Ray Peat's diet?

I have been on and off eggs for years as well, I'll try them out again and see how it goes.

I promise.
Okay I am totally on board with the dropping all starches. This will be very easy for me to accomplish. I'll just have to get a definitive list of common starch foods and make sure I'm not missing anything.

With PUFA, it seems to be a little conflicing. One article says Olive Oil is PUFA, another says it is not.

I am find sticking to just Coconut Oil and Butter, I prefer butter actually, but I feel like then in a year someone will say, "oh butter is actually PUFA."

Don't we have any hard science on this stuff yet? I'll cut out olive oil for now and stick to coconut oil/butter.

You "butter" not be lying to me. ;)

Okay, I am with you on using magnesium, I'll have to research more on this and what the best method for body absorption is.

I do a lot of work with my thoughts and I still return to my baseline. Things have definitely gotten better but I have an underlying stress condition that I haven't been able to figure out how to solve. I may have to look at a majorly slowed down life style to get my stress levels lowers. A lot of people do that here in MN. Or I could go to Colorado and have a lot more time to spend outdoors on hikes. We'll see.

Here is a question, if I am stressing all the time, does that make my body more estrogenic? Like when guys make fun of each other and say "quit acting like a girl." Is there physiological truth to this when a male is easily stressed out? I'm not trying to be sexist here, I'm just curious about the biology.

Supplement withe Iodine.
Your sensitive TSH is crazy high
How much Iodine are we talking here? Can I just use Iodized salt?

What does the high TSH indicate, Hypothyrodism? I am seeing my primary care doc next week. He will likely test me for basic ***t. What other tests should I force him to take for me? T3/T4? Anything else?

The TSH Sensitive was taken within the past couple weeks. The other TSH was about a year ago. I'm not sure what the difference is. I am guessing they are pretty similar?

What are some other ways I can lower estrogen. Any specific foods/drinks?

So are you saying I need more sugar in my diet or less? I have been on a lower sugar for a while now except for honey and fruit. Should I incorporate more sugar like Orange Juice?

I have always had good muscles, with a little bit of belly fat currently. If I lost 10 pounds I would be at an ideal weight of 170. I am 5'11''.

I'll have to see if my doc can prescribe the NDT if my blood indicates hypothyrodism.

I am so unclear about the caffeine piece.

I will continue reading about hypothyrodism diets.

I'll watch the video.

I have been educating myself on lots of various health modalities and diets over the years and I have found that all of the information ends up conflicting each other. In many cases, even large meta-analysis studies do not tell the whole story.

It drives me nuts that we can't figure out how to tailor the correct diets for people's body types.

I don't agree with people here claiming "Trash all supplements". They don't know what they are talking about. Obviously your list is quite long and i don't think you might need all of these. Actually it can result on opposite reaction by lowering (cortisol too much) and it will make you feel that it is not working. Having said that it is important to understand that when somebody is inside the "low metabolism" or "high stress" cycle, it is impossible to reverse that just by "changing your mind" or your way of thinking. I will agree 100% that mind and will is VERY important in this fight but sometimes supplements is needed. And in a case 4.5 tsh i think it is. I would recommand to you to switch between Thiamine, T3, Cypro, Niacinamide, vitamin D, aspirin and of course caffein. Search also in this forum 15 mg daily MB reversed bipolar disease (anxiety, depression, low metabolism) in few weeks and combine with some B1 + B3 would be a perfect combo. Cypro start with 2/3 mg and rise as long as needed (try to cycle again to avoid liver acclimatization). With time liver will improve, glycogen also, oxydation increase and stress reduce, and the body will come back to normal energy creation cycle (krebs) and inhibit glycolysis. And all of these is not with only "calm down bro trash your supplements". Good luck
