"Starches and fibers support bacterial growth and can increase serotonin." RP

I found this in Danny Roddy's Weblog, Ray Peat's Brain. It was, therefore, a response to a question. The subject was bruxism/restless leg syndrome, which Peat connected to irritation and inflammation in the intestine.

It's at the bottom of the page if you're interested.

Potato, Oh how I love thee with butter and copious amounts of salt. Alas, potato, you bring me gastric poison. Fair thee well potato, fair well. :toiletclaw

I love me some taters but the evidence against them is getting to be too much.

I think that in that situation with the butter it would not increase serotonin... ??

I think the butter just slows down the insulin response. The serotonin would come from the fibers of the potato.

A few more RP quotes on starch:
Starch tends to support bacterial overgrowth.... It's okay to avoid starch entirely.

and:
Starch has a poor effect on calcium absorption.

Birdie,
Would you happen to have an updated url for this interview?
This one does not work, and I cannot find the interview on roddy's substack, or here.
Thanks.

No, I don't know. It's too bad some of these links disappear with time. Maybe you could get in touch with Danny and he might help.
