Sleep, amongst many problems.

I start by saying that I think Ray Peat is brilliant. The great people in physiology or medicine see the big picture, not just a few square inches of it. Perhaps many on the forum have complicated problems and I can add my name to that list. I know my post will straddle many areas, so I apologize for the overlaps. Here's my laundry list:

Treatment resistant ultra rapid cycling bipolar, worsening food sensitivities,(been guten free for a year), immune dysfunction/dysregulation, poor libido and erectile dysfunction(even with being on testosterone pellets and now back to shots) and several years of non-restorative sleep. Last evening I was reading many posts about taurine, an amino acid I've been using for about five years to either stop a manic episode(works, sometimes) or to take in the midst of an episode. Took 5gm in olive oil last evening because I'm strung out from 9 years on Klonopin. I also drank some sugar water with a bit of salt. Also took .5mg of Klonopin. Got sleepy, went to bed at 10, had my usual collection of strange dreams and woke up at 2:30.

I've tried many of RP's dietary and supplement recommendations and everything I've tried has either not worked or made me worse, been on NDT(from 1994 to 2006 I was on Cytomel and my sleep, libido and weight were all great...then it stopped working after 12 years and my moron edoncrinologist at Kaiser wasn't interested to get his hands dirty to find out what was at the root of the medication failure.) I've had libido/erectile problems going on six years.

Scheduled to consult with a top urologist/anti-aging specialist to find out why testosterone therapy isn't working, so I know there will be a new set of labs. Bipolar illness is a neuroimmunoendocrine illness and there are no easy fixes, at least I haven't found any and I'm desperately trying. And being unable to get restorative sleep is eroding the foundation of my life and health. I know RP recommends high protein along with high carbs to improve thyroid and liver function, but wondering if, for me, a high carb, low protein diet, might be more suitable to keep histamine low(Carl Pfieffer's recommendation for people with histadelia.) I don't expect to be cured of bipolar illness, but it's as if my body is at war with itself and gradually shutting down all the metabolic and endocrine pathways that would or could reverse the decline that is taking place.
