Thanks! It’s not *nearly* as good of a solvent as DMSO. It does help a little bit with topical absorption, but isn’t going to deliver things systemically like DMSO does.

MSM AND HUMAN HEALTH
WHY DOES THE HUMAN BODY NEED SULFUR?
WHY DOES THE HUMAN BODY NEED MSM?
Additional experiments with MSM containing radiolabeled sulfur demonstrated that after ingestion, MSM is bound to the mucosa. Apparently, MSM is binding to receptor sites at the mucous membrane surface in the intestinal and urogenital tracts and the respiratory system. By doing so, it presents a blocking interface between host and environment (4). There are many health-benefitting implications to such natural interactions. Allergens and parasites cannot bind to the mucosa, toxins are oxidized, and free radicals are eliminated. WHAT CAN MSM DO FOR YOU?
Synergetic Effect

HOW SAFE IS MSM? MSM is similar in toxicity to water. When MSM was administered to human volunteers, no toxic effects were observed at intake levels of 1 gram per kg of body weight per day for 30 days. Intravenous injections of 0.5 grams per kg body weight daily for five days a week produced no measurable toxicity in human subjects. The lethal dose (LD50) of MSM for mice is more than 20 g/kg body weight; this means that the average lethal dose of MSM for humans is more than one and a half kilograms; about six times the lethal dose of table salt. MSM has been widely tested as a food ingredient without any reports of allergic reactions. An unpublished Oregon Health Sciences University study of the long-term toxicity of MSM over a period of six months showed no toxic effects. More than 12,000 patients were treated with MSM at levels above two grams daily, without toxicity (8). DETOXIFICATION SYMPTOMS

I use MSM off and on, mostly for when I am having some inflammation from allergies or joint pain. I am still deciding if I want to use it on a regular basis, but times when I do use it, I don't have any issues with it, no side effects that I can detect. The information on it looks good, but that can be the case with a lot of nutrients.Anybody still using MSM?
They say the same thing about depleting molybdenum. I suppose since sulfur is an antagonist to those minerals. I would like to see studies that actually confirm that assertion before I believe it, since there are many variables that can affect the outcome. Thanks @Inaut, msm looks pretty impressive there. I've used it on and off over the years and feel pretty good when using it. I read once that too much though can deplete copper?
I have taken it semi-regulary since I started this thread 7 years ago. I have had but positive experiences with it, particularly with respect to intestinal health and the appearance of skin and hair. I am not sure why this is the case, but it seems as though my regular diet doesn't provide all the sulfur I need - hence the continued positive effect from supplementation.Anybody still using MSM?
@Inaut @Peopleface Please can you Guys keep this thread updated, ideally on a Monthly basis as first-hand experience is 'Gold'.

The standard argument that gets flung around is soil depletion, but I do not know whether there exist data to back this up.
I add it to aloe vera gel and use it for all sorts of things.Hopping on the thread thanks to @Rinse & rePeat bringing it to my attention. Has anyone tried to make their own topical cream?
Ohhh! Good to know! I always have aloe vera gel on hand and use it for all sorts of things, too (hair gel, moisturizer...). I was going to order MSM in a loose powder for the purpose of using some of it topically but I didn't want a huge amount until I am sure it agrees with me, so I will just split the capsules as needed.I add it to aloe vera gel and use it for all sorts of things.
Hello @whitI'm all for getting important life sustaining substances from whole food sources when possible.
I'm not sure however of the content or quality of MSM found in an unpasteurized milk product.
Their are so many variables, so an average MSM content would be the best hope of outcome.
The optimum dose is what I'm interested in without negative side effect.
I do believe you're right in that unpasturized milk is most beneficial.
MSM is likely an instamental factor in what milk has to offer.
There's so many reasons to love milk.
By the by how is your experience with MSM coming along?
