This made me laugh out loud. Not sure if it is a dog owner thing though.

From "Milk in Context: Allergies, Ecology, and Some Myths":

"Estrogen and stress cause the appearance of antigens in the human or animal tissues that are essentially the same as the stress-induced and defensive proteins in plant tissues. A crocodile might experience the same sort of allergic reaction when eating estrogen-treated women and when eating commercial bananas."

from- Critiquing "Dr. McDaniel Responds" Letter

"I noticed a completely idiotic statement about yams and steroids in that journal, indicating that the yams used by the steroid industry were the same as edible yams. (There are about 600 types of steroid rich yam; a typical one looks like Bigfoot, weighs as much as 90 pounds, and is poisonous.)"

It may be bittersweet humor, but in a recent post on the Email Depository thread there was this quote:

"Like Paris in 1870, democracy or socialism tends to fail when all the surrounding countries invade."

The cells of the skin and bowel divide thousands of times in a normal lifetime, showing that there is a kind of arrogant silliness in the claim that "human cells have a strictly limited capacity to divide." (I call this "disproof by dandruff ")

From Peat's book "Nutrition for Women"

Page 100
"However, there are some establishment slogans that are being used in an effort to suppress any dissenting opinions in medicine and nutrition. "Raising false hopes" is one such slogan, as if being respectably sick meant abandoning all hope, but allowing the patient who stays under "proper medical care" to hope for a miracle seems perfectly acceptable."

"On the basis of a 30 minute talk by a dietician, the "Harvard educated physician" becomes an authority on nutrition (and everything else related to health, though their training has been mainly in sickness, not health), and his "professional opinion" is taken seriously by public and lawmakers."

Page 102
"When you start looking for ulterior motives, you might conclude that your physician is greedy, that your chemist has a contract with the rubber company that makes ice cream, and that food producers are so pleased with their profits that they don't care about the increasing numbers of deformed and mentally retarded babies, or the increasing rate of cancer and diabetes. If you do this, then you are probably involved in a demystification of the world. Eating good food can alter your consciousness, so can thinking about how we're going to get it. "
