Hello, "raypeaters". I'm a new user in this forum and need to ask a question about a multivitamin I bought, whose name's in the title of this thread. Its label claims the bottle contains 500 tablets, but I counted 506 pills twice. That's the only problem I found with it, otherwise it seems genuine.

I've never used a dietary supplement before, so I ask you: is it normal they contain more pills than their labels state? Do you think mine is as reliable as other units?

I bought the supplement from someone on a platform like eBay -- MercadoLivre, which's actually a "version" of eBay for my country (Brazil). Thus I'm worried if the product is a pirate copy... And I still have time to return it.

I'm not a native nor advanced English speaker, but I apologise for any mistake I made.

I would avoid any multis as they usually have the cheapest form of the vitamin available and they also usually have stuff you don’t really want. Looking at yours I wouldn't take it because of the iron, phosphorous, nickel, copper, and folic acid.

I would get a good b-vitamin that uses folate and not folic acid, and then the rest depends on your diet and sun exposure. Many here use vitamin k, D3, calcium, magnesium, b-vitamins. Go on CRON-O-Meter: Track nutrition & count calories and see what deficiencies you may have and go from there.

As far as ebay goes, I think it’s a crap shoot and not worth the risk. Check the date on the product. Do you have 500 days until it expires? Ebay sellers often resell expired products if they are even authentic to begin with.

Thank your for your reply.

I understand your points but I'm not worried about it's folic acid instead of folate. I think scientific evidence shows that both forms are different only quantitatively, but I respect your opinion. I'm also aware of my daily intake of all essential nutrients, so there's no problem with exceeding the ULs.

The expiration date, or better, best by date is September 30, 2017, so at one tablet per day there will be plenty of pills left over, but they just will lose potency and I'll buy other multivitamin when necessary. It's not a big deal.

By the way I'm interested in easy, fast and complete essential nutrition, which I think it's not much different from healthy conventional food, and wish I could buy something like Soylent in my country, but the only way I found is importation, which can be very costly. Anyway I believe I'll find the solutions for my nutritional problems with a well-written linear program.
