PureBulk Magnesium Malate tastes sour?

Has anyone else tried PureBulk Magnesium Malate powder?

I've been using the Seeking Health brand for over a year with good results and grew accustomed to the mostly neutral, kind of chalky taste. I recently bought some from PureBulk just because I was placing an order there for other things.

I was surprised when I mixed the PureBulk one with some OJ and water (like I normally do) and it was super sour. It almost reminded me of ascorbic acid. Has anyone experienced sour tasting mag malate? and what does that mean?

Malic acid in its pure form is very sour.
Maybe the PureBulk product contains an excess of malic acid that’s not bound to magnesium.
I’m fairly certain magnesium malate can have a slightly acidic taste intrinsically. If it’s very potent however it’s likely something else that’s causing the acidity.
Are you positive it was not just your OJ being extra sour?
