I remember a while back someone posted a study that saturated fat causes apoptosis and might be potentially dangerous when saturated fat are applied topical on the testes.

Well, this study shows that PUFAs, with arachidonic acid being the worse, have an anti-mitochondrial effect that stems from direct effects on the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPTP). Calcium is then able to stream in and induce cell death.

Evidence against Calcium as a Mediator of Mitochondrial Dysfunction during Apoptosis Induced by Arachidonic Acid and Other Free Fatty Acids
"unsaturated FAs were generally toxic although we did note wide variation and that variation did not correlate with chain length or number of double bonds."

All PUFAs are almost equally bad.
Saturated fats were shown to be the opposite.

This is also because that if the cardiolipin consists of PUFAs, it will decrease the membrane potential and ATP production and are prone to oxidation. When oxidized, the cardiolipin will activate the MPTP and induce cell death.
