Ok so many "poor" people in developed countries aren't as materially poor as the urban poor in countries that lack basic sanitation and safety, but perceived poverty can still cause the effect of depression in the study haidut posted. Someone mentioned Baltimore, that is a perfect example. No one in West Baltimore is rejoicing that they have running water or a bar of soap.

Again, if you have any evidence regarding your thesis. Then I would be glad to see it. You say the influence is certainly obvious, but I don't see it. The whole cold war was blown out of proportion regarding soviet infiltration and influence. If anything the U.S was more responsible for the atrocities during that period. There was coup in every latin american country. Military dictatorships established across the world by yours truly. Millions of people died in Vietnam, Korean War, Iran-Contra affair. The list goes on an on. If anything it was the reverse.

It's funny you ask which I think is more evil. Because as Americans we should hold our own government accountable. I cannot speak on behalf of the Russians or the Russian government. However, we can compare a short amount of time in which historical events have taken place. How many countries has Russia overthrown since 2000 ? I know of none but I do know of the U.S overthrow of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt, Ukraine, and now trying in Syria. To answer the question objectively one has to put their anti-Russian rhetoric aside. Because thats what it is in the end. We first hated Russia because they were communist, now, what is our excuse ? Because their Russian ? Brzezinski is bragging that he wants to break up Russia into 68 different countries. Unless you have evidence that Russia is a threat to the U.S, then everything else is just propaganda.
Be careful to not have a binary/dualistic view of good and evil. Things are way more complicated than that and Putin's administration is far from being good or a solution to our problems. They are quite hypocrite by hiding what they really do and lying (like the U.S) and they take advantage of the decentralization of medias (internet) and of the growing number of people that start to understand what western governments really do to improve their public image, cult of personnality (lot of far right wing people saying that Putin is a good guy), etc (For example, I've heard so many times that Putin is the only man that can save us because "he has balls", if that is even an argument).

I think that both the U.S and Russian governments are rotten to the core and that we should be careful about taking the defense of one or the other and argue blindly by listing the qualities and bad things from both sides to try to say that one is better than the other, useless waste of time and energy. If one side is bad, it doesn't mean that the other is good or better just by being the opposite.
We have to be careful of conformism and gregarious instinct, do your own research, perceive, think and act before taking position and becoming fanatic (I don't say that especially for you jag, I think you are quite nuanced).

Few people know what Putin is really up to (check informations about Putin's brain Aleksandr Dugin or Konstantin Malofeev), but it seems that he is financing the far right everywhere in Europe Russia accused of clandestine funding of European parties as US conducts major review of Vladimir Putin's strategy and wants to create a kind of putsch (they seem to want to create great Russia). Geopolitics has never been simple.

To finish, I don't think that Peat is a communist (you have to read what he says about politics). His approach when he talks about Russian scientists is philosophical and not political, he saw the humanism in Russia as an opportunity to create a unique culture with great minds, scientists and artists that were misunderstood by western scientists (he says that Pavlov was misunderstood) and denigrated during cold war (which was a great loss for our science and culture). He just explained that in his books and I've never felt that he was doing an apology of communism or that he would have received money from the KGB to say this kind of stuff.
I advise you to read this interview where he talks a bit more about politics: Organizing the Panic | An Interview with Dr. Ray Peat you will see that his view of things is really nuanced and that he doesn't fall prey to fanatism/idealism, I think that his view of the situation is quite accurate and that just a few people here are able to think like that (I say that after reading posts on Trump and other political stuff on here...).

But the depression runs heavily on middle and high socioeconomic classes as well so it's not because of that, my friend. The whole culture is depressed and maniac at the same time. I tend to see the mania as a escape away from the depression. Look at numbers on psyche drugs. Everybody is medicated in 1st world.

Of course low income people have much less resources. Don't get me wrong.

Right, I've read the article quickly and didn't even pay attention to the title of the website because I was looking for things to read on the topic as my sources are not in english, the rest is still interesting and less partial I guess :).

Arguing with the moral high ground is a double standard. How many people died in the Vietnam, Korean War, the anti-communism killings in Malaysia. Coup in Iran 1954, Coup in Guatemala, Coup in Chile and Argentina with the use of state terrorism ? Selling drugs to it's own people to fund an illegal war ( Iran-contra war).

Well if one is objective than one can see the problems occurring. I understand That Putin is corrupt, there is no secret there. I am only concern with the anti-Russian rhetoric that has led troops to Eastern Europe. Literally, the U.S has troops all along eastern bloc and now in north between the border of Norway and Russia. Imagine, if Russia came to Mexico and put troops along the rio grande border ? The U.S would have already launch a preventive war. The aggressor is clear.

I want to see evidence that he is funding those groups. The golden dawn in Greece is a straight up fascist/neo-nazi. The far right see's Russia as an alternative to the neoliberalism to NATO. Plus, those far right wing groups probably support Putin because he is trying to keep Syria from breaking up like Iraq and becoming a failed state. The Euromaidan press is so biased I wouldn't trust the weather they posted.

I never made that argument. I love how I am quoted in this when I wasn't even making those accusations.

Any poor class person living in US who can buy a Primark T-shirt for 1,99 dollars made in a 3rd world country should immediately recognize they don't have a material poverty issue. If you only think all the intermediates since that t-shirt was produced until it got to you, you must immediately realize, unless you're idiotized, that there are people way much more poor than you. Slaves, probably. In the US they have socio economic differences, stressful lives, cultural madness, cultural depression/mania, etc. but not poverty.

Apparently you have never been to or heard of some of the American Indian Reservations in the southwest US.

Well, read the book, communism has lead to more death than nazism (and I'm not defending the nazis here, nor I'm defending capitalism or anything else, I agree with what you said regarding Iran, Malaysia, etc).

Like I've said, I don't defend one country or the other, we could argue indefinitely and that would be useless, I made my points and that is enough for me, I'm conscious of how bad the U.S government is as I'm conscious of how bad Russian government is, and I'm trying to do research on the topic and understand hidden agendas, I'm not believing blindly what I found in mainstream medias or on far right wing youtube channels.

I've posted other articles that are not from Euromaidan, like I've said my original sources are not in english, that's why I've tried to find other articles.
Do some research on Aleksandr Dugin and Konstantin Malofeev, right arms of Putin, they organized a meeting with European far right wings parties in Vienna in 2014.

I never made that argument. I love how I am quoted in this when I wasn't even making those accusations.
I was not quoting you but the guy that said that Peat may have received money from the KGB. Sorry if that was not clear but I was not attacking you so no need to be on the defensive. :chaplin

Most of the deaths cited in that book are due to famines. That doesn't prove that it was done deliberately. The Ukrainian government sue Russia a few years ago for the holodomor and couldn't get a conviction because there was no proof. Do americans say the millions that died during the great depression died because of capitalism. No.

Well, there is indeed a controversy on this book around the number of death and the causes, still what is said inside is worth reading and I don't think the horror in communism just came from famine, most of these countries are/were very authoritarian and restrictive: prison, goulags, purges, executions, rich dominant class and poor people (ironic isn't it), no freedom of speech and of thought, etc, with maybe the exception of Cuba (and I've not really studied the topic).
Personally, I generally feel closer to some "left" political ideas (at least anti-authoritarism and social humanism) but I really dream of another system than communism for government (at least as it has been applied until now).

No. The study talks about "socio economic status", which is basically code for living in socially dysfunctional families and neighborhoods. It's not about material poverty anywhere in America.
There's still poverty in America, but social cohesion certainly appears absent in many communities with low social trust, but even with the media, the susceptibility of people to socially-destructive ideology could base itself in a biological state of surrender.
