Possible Reasons For High Potassium On A Blood Test?

To specify my question even more, the blood test was for my brother who has muscular dystrophy (not sure if that would matter or not). The blood test was just a general one done by his PCP. His level was out of the normal range as 5.30 mmol/L.

if the muscular dystrophy produced ongoing activity,
it seems likely that the higher Potassium is some kind of "spill over"-event,
coming from the pool of K in the musculature.
