Polymorphic light eruption - sun allergy

Hi all, does anyone know anything about or have experience dealing with polymorphic light eruption (PMLE)? Basically, it's hundreds of tiny bumps that appear after the first exposure to intense sun each year. It used to just happen in my hands and neck and then pass after a week and not return until the following summer. But this year, it happened again much more severely on my beach holiday in France. It's spread to my arms and legs.

Perhaps it's an autoimmune condition (I have another, alopecia areata)? Maybe histamine related? I have been eating less Peaty than usual here in France with much more bread and cheese.

I'd appreciate any help.

Have you tried a anti-histamine?

Not yet. I want to try cyproheptadine, but have to drive the family back to the UK in a couple of days, so can't risk being drowsy.
