FDA food testing finds contamination by PFAS and other ‘forever chemicals’

"The Food and Drug Administration’s first broad testing of food for a worrisome class of nonstick, stain-resistant industrial compounds found substantial levels in some grocery store meats and seafood and in off-the-shelf chocolate cake, according to unreleased findings FDA researchers presented at a scientific conference in Europe.

The FDA’s disclosure is likely to add to concerns raised by states and public health groups that President Donald Trump’s administration is not acting fast enough or firmly enough to start regulating the manmade compounds, called “forever chemicals.” A federal toxicology report last year cited consistent associations between very high levels of the industrial compounds in peoples’ blood and health risks but said there was not enough evidence to prove the compounds as the cause.

Because the tough compounds are predicted to take thousands of years to degrade, and because older versions have been found to accumulate in peoples’ bodies, PFAS has acquired the name “forever chemicals.”"

FDA confirms PFAS chemicals are in our food

"PFAS is a family of nearly 5,000 synthetic chemicals that are extremely persistent in the environment and in our bodies. PFAS is short for perfluoroalky and polyfluoroalkyl substances and includes chemicals known as PFOS, PFOA and GenX, sometimes called forever chemicals. These chemicals all share signature elemental bonds of fluorine and carbon, which are extremely strong and difficult to break down in the environment or in our bodies."

"These chemicals can easily migrate into the air, dust, food, soil and water and can accumulate in the body. They've been linked to adverse health impacts including liver damage, thyroid disease, decreased fertility, high cholesterol, obesity, hormone suppression and cancer. "

Sugar makes you fat and gives you cancer though.

Ignore the industrial chemicals, nothing to see here.

Gee, thanks for a depressing read this morning lol.

Can a good metabolism purge these from the body? Since waiting for them to degrade is obviously impossible.

F, dude. I've been using Polar Seltzer for my magnesium bicarbonate water because it doesn't have fluoride.
Human detoxification of perfluorinated compounds - PubMed

All PFC congeners found in serum were detected in stool after CSM use. Serum levels of all PFCs subsequently declined after regular use of CSM. Further study is required but this report suggests that CSM therapy may facilitate gastrointestinal elimination of some PFCs from the human body.
Might be of interest
If CSM works by preventing enterohepatic circulation, then maybe activated charcoal would work as well. According to Ray, this is the same mechanism by which AC and carrot fiber lower estrogen—by preventing reabsorption of bile-bound estrogen.

It's also used to remove PFAS from tap water:

Treating PFAS in Drinking Water | US EPA

"EPA has found ways to remove PFAS from drinking water. These effective technologies include activated carbon treatment, ion exchange resins, and high pressure membranes, like nanofiltration or reverse osmosis."

I used to drink Pellegrino until I discovered it has graphene oxide.
1) A TDS test only measures the degree of conductivity of the water due to the presence of various dissolved solids (TDS = Total Dissolved Solids). Mineral water is conductive and will always give out a certain number on the TDS tester. The higher the mineral contents, the higher the reading. Only demineralized (distilled) water will give a zero, or near zero, on a TDS test. Try it for yourself if you own a water distiller. Test distilled water and then add a pinch of sea salt, and see the reading difference. A TDS reading > 0 is NOT a diagnostic of harmful contents! 2) Ditto for the electrolysis test. Mineralized water will react by changing color, from very light (lightly mineral water) to dark/darkest (highly mineralized water). San Pellegrino water does not contain iron. The magnetic residues attracted by the magnet are likely iron oxide caused by the oxidization of the iron electrode used. Here again, not a proof of harmful contents. And certainly NOT a proof of graphene oxide. Stop freaking out on videos posted by wannabe scientists that do not have a clue as to the hows and whys of their kitchen tests results. Some time ago, one of these geniuses posted a very similar video (same tests) with the conclusion that the water color change was due to pesticides !!! (which can only be detected by chemical analysis, not by electrolysis). These types of videos are unfounded fear mongering. And it works! Personally, I have been drinking San Pellegrino for years and intend to continue to do so.

Thanks for the explanation.
