Not really suprising. I can take physical pain better than emotional pain. I've never cut myself, but I can see why people would do such things.
I have been looking into these things lately and I suspect this either has something to do with unsolveved trauma, lack of self acceptance or lack of clear direction and goal oriented behaviours in people's lives. Or more likely all of them.
