My parents cat has had a single runny eye for some months, now the second eye is runny too and the nose started running (can't confirme the nose yet). I suspect it's some kind of bacterial infection, because the progress is so slow. Could it be something else?

Is it safe to give regular human Penicillin-VK from tablets? I think at the vet he would get a 20.-50.000IU penicillin injection.

I heard Aspirin is deadly to cats, is that true?

What do you think I could try other than giving Penicillin before trying the vet?

Thanks a lot

The Merck Veterinary Manual is available online Merck Veterinary Manual Back in the day when I had a lot of cats, I bought my own copy. You can look these things up if you want the safety/efficacy of the drugs and how much to dose.

holisticat.com used to be a great resource too (the site appears to have gone downhill a bit now) but it looks like there is still some useful info here Upper Respiratory Infections
Sounds like it could be viral, like a calicivirus or something. Lysine may be useful.
