Tried Google and the forum's search, couldn't find anything of relevance.

Anybody know what Peat thinks of it? Good stress reliever? Bad because of (some reason)?

Traditional health systems like ayurveda and TCM considered it very bad, more or less depending on gender, age and health status. I feel very drained from it although it relieves stress. Don't know the logic behind it.

From what I understand Peat does not consider it to be harmful because it lowers cortisol. But I also believe it raises prolactin. However I don't think he realizes there are men that do it every single day. I think you should listen to your body and masturbate when you feel you need to rather than out of a habit or boredom. Only you will know if you are addicted, and if so, then I believe it would be a problem, just like a drug.

Also If you feel the need to madturbate because you are stressed, you should focus on improving metabolism so stress hormones come down. Also, masturbation and loneliness go hand and hand usually, so from that standpoint, it probably isn't good.

Masturbation can be both beneficial, or detrimental ... it depends.
I don't think I've read much about this from the Doc.

Western ideologies do not suggest ejaculating all that often, especially in the cold winter months. There's a formula (based on age) which recommends how often to ejaculate ... men over thirty wont like the numbers. That being said, masturbation without ejaculation does not fall into that category. This info is in regards to mens ejaculation, not female.

Also there can be some negative effects of the mind if you use too much porn to masturbate, especially if you are viewing many different scenes in one sitting.

My current setup is I usually only ejaculate every 4 masturbations. I only watch porn for maybe one or two of those, and I try not to make that the time I ejaculate, though sometimes my body makes this decision for me. If I do watch porn (and am watching multiple scenes) I try to make it of the same person. Being sensitive to energy, I try not to ejaculate around the new moon.

Non-ejaculation does does mean non-orgasm, as the body learns how to do this once you start preventing ejaculation.

I can see how chronic masturbation could lead to loneliness, but not general masturbation. Often when I start seeing someone, I don't see them often enough to quench the accelerated horniness that comes from interacting with a new human. I've only really stopped completely when I've lived with someone, and the real thing is available at desire.

I think porn is the real issue, and one that's often overlooked when discussing sexuality. Since the sexual liberation movement has spread through the culture many criticisms of porn have been seen as being a puritanical authority attempting to repress free expression. Certainly, no-one should be made to feel guilty for masturbating, but I think an honest look at the biological changes invoked by porn should be explored. Personally I belong to the reddit nofap community, which promotes complete abstinence from porn, although some members still masturbate. There are a swath of testimonials of people who have increased greater quality of life after ceasing porn use, from reversing sexual dysfunction, to greater confidence and self worth as well as energy and motivation. Right now there's about 154,000 subreddit subscribers and it's growing steadily.

It's interesting to observe one's own body before, during and after the act, comparing masturbation with imagination to the barrage of endless HD videos available freely to anyone now. Imagination, there's a slight relaxed lethargy after and the difference in heart rate is negligible. But just knowing that I'm going to watch porn, even as I'm bringing up google I can feel my heart starting to race. After a session, my mind races, my heart is pounding, often above 130BPM. I really don't feel good- I feel amped up but tired at the same time. I now believe that porn is toxic and is beneficial to no-one.

My theory is that forced orgasms/ejaculations (when you aren't very horny) trigger a bigger prolactin spike, because it is not being opposed by dopamine as much. And doing this everyday or worse multiple times per day might lead to hyperprolactinaemia through a feedback loop which is very bad news physiologically.

Once in a hyper-prolactin state everything gets messed up (estrogen up, testosterone down, dopamine down, serotonin up, cortisol up). I think in most cases cabergoline or another anti-prolactin drug is nearly required to recover just like in women who have been nursing for a long time (especially if they weren't in the best health during that time).

I don't think it has anything to do with dopamine spikes and porn like the "Your Brain on Porn" guy adamantly claims.

Moral of the story:

Don't masturbate if you aren't truly horny (you can get raging erections just by thoughts)

Learn to be comfortable with being horny and prioritize your energy into your goals and relationships.

Take cabergoline if you've dug yourself into a prolactin hole.

Eat like Peat. Not like Grok.
