haidut said:I don't think he referred to it as "obesity paradox", but rather said in one of his newsletters that people who eat regularly and have higher BMI have better health outcomes than people who diet and have lower/desirable BMI. When I find the newsletter I will post the date and title.

I wondered that as well. However, it has been shown that people with high body mass, even if it is high body-fat percentage, have higher basal metabolic rate. I think this is what confers the protective effect. Too bad the article did not do further analysis into whether it was just the higher mass or higher muscle mass that gives the protection.
