Official Oregon "covid death" definition: "The death results from ANY CAUSE in a hospitalized person during admission or in the 60 days following discharge AND a COVID-19-positive laboratory diagnostic test at any time since 14 days prior to hospitalization;"
KGW News, Oregon: "... so if a person died in a car accident, from alcohol poisoning or gunshot wound and had covid would that be considered a covid death? Well according to the OHA the short answer: yes."

This definition reads like satire. I had to look it up, but yes, here it still is exactly like you said, Fred:

It's like that in most states. Oldie but a goodie:
Illinois DoH: "Even if you died of a CLEAR ALTERNATE CAUSE, it's still listed as a COVID death" - (Youtube Video: "Dr. Ngozi Ezike | How COVID Deaths are Classified")

New York City: "A death is classified as confirmed if the decedent was a New York City resident who had a positive SARS CoV-2 (COVID-19) laboratory test."

Washington State Department of Health spokesman, Jamie Nixon, said in an email in part:
"Our current definition for a COVID-19 death includes anyone with a COVID-19 positive laboratory test that has died, irrespective of cause of death."

This is what I found after looking into only about 6 or 7 states' definitions. So, yeah ... pretty obvious what's going on here.
