Many of Peat's suggestions lead to lower NO, and higher CO2. A while back I read that CO2 should be the primary inducer of erections(perhaps I'm wrong/misunderstood), so I'm wondering how it compares.

Interested to know as well...CO2 is supposedly the primary vasodilator and NO is a stress hormone.

Whenever I take methylene blue or use redlight, both lower nitric oxide, I get issues. Outside of that, they’re probably my two favourite ‘supplements’.

I’ve discovered recently thanks to Haidut I can fix them with some pregnenolone and dhea.

Also interested in how nitric oxide promoters like rogaine somehow grow hair.

I would like to know more about this. If anyone has something to share, thanks

I find my erections are much better after using co2 (bagging legs and torso). Red light sometimes weakens my erections if I overexpose nuts but I’ve begun limiting exposure to gonads and finding erections are.....A1.

NO erections -> no control, tendency to premature ejaculation; CO2 erections -> long slow build, lots of control to match your partner

NO is a "fake" increased in libido for lack of better way to describe it. It's more of a compulsion. I can tell when it's from NO because I get huge almost irresistible urges to do something about it, whereas from CO2 it doesn't feel as urgent. Usually NO also goes hand in hand (ha, see what I did there) with other markers of poor health like brain fog, fatigue, lack of motivation/energy.

NO libido isn't even libido, it's more like you're dying and your body is just trying to spread your genes as much as possible in the crisis moment.

Isn’t being sexually excited a form of stress? But like running away from a bear, or being faced with a challenge (that doesn’t last too long), these things may have a net beneficial effect.

Having sex or maintaining an erection for timed periods takes up significant resources and energy from the body. Not to mention all of the thrusting, humping, rolling and changing of positions.

What happens if you stay in a sexual state for too long? You guys are saying that’s healthy because you’ll be high on CO2? And nitric oxide plays no part at all with an erection for somebody who has good CO2 levels?

Just my hunch, but I would wager it’s probably more complicated than that. Personally it makes sense to me that the body would raise nitric oxide for an erection. But not crazily so like viagra. Viagra numbs the sexual pleasure side of it and is a metabolic poison. But, for sexual purposes , I doubt the body raises nitric oxide to those ridiculous levels.

I would ask Peat myself to see what he thinks, but I don’t email him anymore.

It’s a bit like saying that estrogen or serotonin isn’t needed at all and crushing them into the ground brings about desired benefits just because we’re high on CO2.

Based on what? Sex required no more calories than walking.

I’ve taken methylene blue in 10mg quantities and it doesn’t hurt erections at all. I’ve mistakenly put a bunch of MB on my penis and it didn’t hurt my erections at all.

There is ample evidence of erectile pathways that have nothing to do with NO.

Sorry just seen this. I’ll do you the courtesy of replying.

It’s not about calories. It’s about the acute effect of having sex on your physiology. When I talk about bodily resources I was actually thinking about something a bit more in depth than ‘calories’. Enhancing thyroid function alone uses up these resources. Calories are vital yes to the energy required for the act.

I would say that this is based on my own observations. There is a belief here among many that any form of exercise (above a certain threshold) that involves breathing through your mouth, involves a switch from running on thyroid to running on stress hormones. I assume you don’t have sex breathing through your nose? Yes I know. Odd isn’t it. I don’t know anyone who does that unless they are penetrating extremely slowly and coming across as a bit ‘weird’ by their partner.

Perhaps walking for you is extremely leisurely (I can assure you that I rarely go above that capacity myself, unless lifting weights because I’m vain, and I enjoy lifting weights). And if walking for you is indeed extremely leisurely (lucky you, you must be in better health), then breathing through your nose will be no problem at all, and it will increase carbon dioxide levels, keeping you in a good thyroid like state.

However, and I’m not sure this is the same for others, but walking at a brisk pace brings about a drastically elevated heart rate that thumps through my chest. That’s just my own personal threshold. It could be different for you, however.

But sex also brings about an elevated heart rate (drastically so). My pulse is always 80-90 bpm at rest, so you can imagine what my heart rate goes up to when I get horny and I’m having sex. Admittedly it doesn’t thump through my chest like brisk walking does (and heaven forbid, running), but the heart rate is pretty similar in BPM.

Maybe sex is just akin to a state of brisk walking (or perhaps not as intense), but do you have any studies that show elevations of carbon dioxide and thyroid function from getting an erection? I can’t speak for women, as I am male. Please share if you do.

Likewise, do you have those studies from walking that show humming levels of thyroid? Because the body is either running on thyroid or running on stress hormones. There’s no in-between from such states (from what I’ve tried looking for in my humble, amateur searching). It seems to run on one or the other. Thyroid or stress. Please share.

What I said above still stands in regards to sex and elevated excitation taking up your resources. If you have had sex for prolonged periods of time (or marathon masturbation sessions), you’ll know exactly what I mean. If you’re a ‘one pump wonder’ and it’s all over in 30 seconds, maybe you won’t know what I’m getting at (joke of course).

Sex isn’t supposed to last long, evolutionary speaking. It’s perfectly conceivable that the body would raise the hormones that are needed to generate an erection. If you’ve ever taken GHB (a potent nitric oxide enhancer that I stupidly previously took regularly back in the day), or any other potent nitric oxide enhancers, you will know how the penis can increase in size from engorging that much with blood. I’ve never known any thyroid enhancing compound to ever have that effect.
And I’ve tried them all with more than sufficient sugar and minerals to support the utilisation of the sugar (also including the use of the sugar ‘processors’ like aspirin, t3 and niacinamide). I’m (also) 6 years deplete of PUFA (from dietary sources anyway), so in theory, I’m actually further along than many of you on here. Hence, my temperatures are pretty much always warm. My baseline thyroid is absolutely fine. Health wise I just have other things going on right now.

So what does that mean
(above)? Well, getting an erection involves a certain amount of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide enhancers (up to a certain point) seem to not mess with androgen function, but nitric oxide ‘overloaders’ do (viagra). On viagra, each time, I experienced zero sexual pleasure (no desire) but potent erections that don’t go away. Go figure. It’s also been spoken about on this forum how vigra destroys pleasure and desire. But that isn’t related to a certain level of nitric oxide being necessary to get an erection.

What do you know about what elevates the heart rate during sex? What hormones are involved? What signals does the brain send the private region to facilitate an erection? Is it more carbon dioxide?

I honestly don’t know. Maybe you know? I’m going to look into it more.

These are just some of my musings anyway (I’m writing this on a bus so it’s jumbled lol). Looking forward to what you can share from your side. I’m willing to admit that I’m wrong if you can display that that the opposite is true to the things that I’ve said.

I'm not a mouth breather. I use Co2 to maintain erection. Unless you do acrobatics, sex is not physically demanding, and I have no reason to believe there is large amount of NO released when there is sufficient Co2. Ejaculation is draining, but I avoid it as much as possible.

pretty much this, also your member gets bigger on a CO2 erection. Your sex drive is also a lot more controllable as you said, you last a lot longer, and you're not addicted to it.

Someone on a different thread said he felt "locked and loaded" being around women on nofap and I think that's a good way to describe it. Though I think that nofap is a result of a good metabolism rather than the other way around
