If you CAN lower the weight slow its probably not heavy enough to do much damage unless you are doing a ***t load of volume (sets x reps). As with anything it depends on your goals, training age, injury status etc.

Alex needs to open a biomechanics book. Decreasing the time in which you decelerate bar/impact increases your chance of injury, fairly dramatically. Especially if you want to do something stupid like accelerate the eccentric phase.

Also, accommodated resistance isn't to slingshot a weight back at you. In the case of bands, it providing an elastic resistance so that the resistance increases throughout the movement to work on a particular range for a specific reason. It could be chains.

This is why PTs who get their qualification out of a serial box should post stuff on the internet.
