Nasal Breathing, Craniofacial Development, and CO2

Hello Peatarians—

I'm a male in my late 20's. I had asthma as a kid which led to chronic mouth breathing and poor craniofacial development. As a result I have narrow maxillary arches. My tongue doesn't fit easily at the roof of my mouth when resting on the alveolar ridge, making nasal breathing not as natural as it could be.

I know from the work of Ray Peat. Buteyko and others how important tissue CO2 concentration is and how proper breathing leads to better tissue oxygenation.

I cannot breathe exclusively through my nose during sleep without aid. I wake with a dry mouth. During the day I try to slow my breathing to ensure that I am not hyperventilating and losing CO2, but my control pause between breaths is very short, and I catch myself breathing through my mouth when I'm focusing intently on something else and I let my autonomic system take over.

From what I understand the bone that is involved is largely fused at this age, and I don't know if any dental appliance could make a meaningful difference even if I could afford it.

I'm eating using Peat style diet principles—is there anything else I can do besides bag breathing that will help? Is there anything I'm overlooking that could help me retrain my body so I can maintain nasal breathing throughout the day and night easily, and without hyperventilation?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

RP has mentioned that endotoxin and serotonin from gut irritation
are the major cause of Asthma and sinus inflammation .
Main focus should be lowering endotoxin by eating daily
raw carrot salad and avoiding hard to digest foods like
starch and soluble fiber. OJ is high in soulble fiber pectin
and that is why he recommends strained OJ.
Good thyroid function keeps estrogen, serotonin in check
and also increase liver function. A healthy liver is essential for
handling endotoxins and other toxic materials.
80 grams of good quality protein and B vitamins are essential
for good liver function. He mentioned negative ionized air
lowering serotonin in lungs and improving asthma.
He experimented with few miligrams of DHEA daily and found
his impacted wisdom tooth straightended out. He does not recommend
DHEA now. This has potential to be converted to estrogen in
some people and also can cause liver problem.
Taking DHEA with fat ( butter, olive oil or coconut oil) minimize the
risk of liver damage. I have used DHEA 2-3 mg and have seen good result and
helps with tooth sensitivity.
One of the major RP recommendation is to keep PTH low
by high calcium intake, good ratio of calcium to phosphorus
( 1200-2000 mg of calcium and phosphorus should be equal or less than
calcium), good vitamin D level ( 35-40 ng/mL minimizes PTH, 50 is a good target)
vitamin K ( helps with reversing calcification of
soft tissues, beef liver and kale are good source).
Fructose improves calcium and phosphorus ratio and there are many other
benefits. He did mentioned one of his adult ball player
relative improved his very weak bones by taking egg shell powders.
There is a thread by Dan Wich on good quality ionizer.
Adding vinegar and coconut oil/olive oil to carrot salad is
recommended and it is best to eat the salad separate from meal
and in the afternoon.

update:

Just had my first BNS session and wow do I feel a difference. My whole face is more even in structure. My breathing is the best it has been in years. All in all I consider it a wonderful success and well worth the outrageous cost of the entire treatment.

Its a four day treatment and today was day 1. So you can expect me to update as my progress continues.

Its pretty amazing, although maybe too early to tell, how clear I feel. I feel more centered and focused and confident.

After four days of the Nasal Specific Treatment I must say I am very much impressed.
It is amazing something so simple can fix so many things.
Here is a list of the following noticeable symptoms improved:
Structure of face is now symmetrical.
More confidence.
Total improvement of posture both sitting and standing.
When walking its like a breeze is blowing from behind and everything is just easier to move.
Better concentration when I am studying.
I can look at people in the eyes more often.
All sinus problems have gone, I can breathe clearly through both nostrils at all times.

That is just some of the benefits I have noticed. The doctor said most benefits come after the following weeks after the treatment.
It could be just the Peat diet or maybe a combination of both contributing the amazing feeling of robust health I am starting to feel.
As far as Nasal Specific as a treatment for healing I 10/10 highly recommend.
I have never done a treatment that felt so "right" as soon as the first one was implemented.
