These were the conclusions made by the author:
“1. The classification of myopia into pathologic and non-pathologic groups is advocated.
2. Simplification of myopic nomenclature is desirable.
3. Advancing nonpathologic myopia, occurring in the first two decades, is found associated with hypothyroidism so frequently that some correlation between the two is suspected.
4. In a small group of patients suffering from advancing essential myopia, associated with hypothyroidism, but without other significant physical findings, some were apparently benefited by administration of thyroid extract in conjunction with correction of the refractive error.“
