I think it's much more important in this information age to protect the psyche from bad information than it is to gather information.

I had the habit of reading a book and assimilating as much as I could as if everything written was straight fact. I think its important to critically think about every piece of information given to you, why it's being given to you & if there's an underlying agenda (especially with "NYTimes Bestseller" list types). Determine if it's appropriate.

This "rule" probably doesn't apply to classical literature or scientific studies. 2 cents.

The rich upperclassmen of the past were given education in the arts, to broaden their worldviews and enhance their ability to think critically. The workers and slaves were taught the technical aspects. I personally have 2 technical degrees so I'm stepping on my own toes with this realization.

That said I really love The Alchemist . Soul food.
