Hi there,
I am facing a major weight loss ( muscle loss)... it seem more acute when I am stressed.
But .... there is a strange finding in labs. I've got a high value of urinary cortisol that seems to increase when I take whey protein. ( 500 and 600 on whey , 100 not on whey, 60 is the maximum lab range).

Can I have some kinda protease enzyme dificiency that Leads me todon't absorbe protein and inflammation and muscle loss?

Other reasons for a muscle loss of almost 30 pounds in 8 months with same diet and exercise? Psychosomatic , depression ?

Anyone ?
This is very disturbing. Doctors can't explain what's happening , labs are ok , I don't have any nausea or intestine pains.... just muscle loss ...

Thks

It's not a calorie issue. I eat plenty.
Other times before these situation that occurs since March, any colorir restriction would allow me to loose fat and not muscle.

I eat plenty. And i don't lose fat only muscle. Colossal muscle wasting.

I think my test levels aren't low enough for this ...

And it's very odd urinary cortisol increasing when I take whey. I drop whey.
Could it be stress ? But I had stress all my life and now it's making me disappear . It's getting me in despair. Lift heavy and from a fit muscular guy I am now almost a skinny fat!

i used to think that i eat like a pig

but when i used the cronometer
i found out

that i eat nothing

i used to eat 250 grams of protein and 100 grams sugar/carbs

which destroyed my health

check the cronometer my friend

now i am doing 4 to 1 ratio ssugar to protein

so 1000 gram carb/sugar

1000 grams carbs are not easy to get to

anyway check what you ate yesterday on your cronometer as the first step

i used to burn only muscles
so i used big fat with a litle bit muscle

sugar (all kind of it) are essential for protein absorption and digestion (as aminos...)

I agree with Bahaa here Efesto. You probably aren't eating enough total carbohydrates (don't go demonizing sugar FFS!). Whey protein can be oxidized quickly and end up as just another expensive glucose source if your body isn't getting enough total calories/carbs/sugars. This increased gluconeogenesis (break down of protein into glucose) is most likely why you are seeing increased cortisol and muscle wasting.

Also sounds like you have been dieting too restrictively for too long. The longer you are on a severe diet and the lower you get your bodyfat percentage the higher risks you run with muscle loss.

Please give us your current weight and daily carb/fat/protein intake.

I am not on diet. I am not trying to lean out. By the contrary.
Urinary cortisol is very high when on whey protein.
Lost almost 30 pounds and I am into bodybuilding. Living nightmare . Some doctors say it's psychosomatic.
I think I've got low testosterone, or protease or vitamine b12 deficiency or parasits... I can't explain my weight lot. I even stop running 8 months ago.
Before this I could easily lean out. Now I just can't maintain muscle mass. Always losing and without any fat lost. I am 86 kgs . Dexa say I am 14,5/. I was 100 kg s on march.
Something wrong with me and protein. Why am I so catabolic ???

3 eggs

Greek yogurt nuts

Beef brochulli

200 gr ham
Yogurt oats

Chicken
Sweet patatoe

Iogurt 500 ml quark cheese

How much do you weight though? And how much protein/fat/carbs does that equal to be? I don't see any quantification there other than the 3 eggs, 200gr ham and yogurt 500ml.

So youre carbs is maybe 20 per cent of your diet

Use the cronometer efesto

Put your food intake

For 1 full day

And tell us how many grams of sugar/carbs

And how many grams of protein

Cronometer.com

Im gonna tell u my carbs intake
4 cooked apples with ten table spoon sugar

1 pound white sugar
20 dates (fruit)
4 boiled potatoes
12 cups orange juice

Sometimes more but never less

I believe your eating 20 percent sugar

Glitche told you about glucogeneogenesis

When you dont eat enough carb

U pee protein

When you add more protein you will pee more protein

Eat the way youre eating

But add 6 potatoes
And alot of fruits

But all that is just talk
And talk

What u have to do now if you want to get the best of health and shape

To use the cronometer

Good luck

I think you could easily say from your own experience if it is psychosomatic or not. The whole loss of muscle mass is a big stressor, but it doesn't explain this whey thing. There has been another member here suffering from that a year ago or so. I cannot find that thread, maybe someone else knows where to look.

As other posters above mentioned your carb intake seems to be low already and ingesting proteins also stimulate insulin secretion ,so this also lowers your blood sugar more, and ups your cortisol.

potato's are not very high on carbs.

Several hypothesis
1. Cushings
2. Malabsorption of protein ( enzymes, vitamin b12 , parasites )
3. Psychosomatic
4. Depression
5. Overtraining
6. Low testosterone

1. Is rule out because urinary cortisol drops when I don't take whey
2. Didn't do any investigations
3. Hard to call. Doctors say that because it's a great excuse
4. I don't think so .. but the situation by itself is depressing me
5. Always trained like this . 4x a week and train hard for 1 h. I even quit running that's my passion
6. Before this I was 500. Right now I am on 350-450.

Always did perfect on low carb on lost fat. But not this time.

Do you think I've got a metabolism disregulation for not eating much carbs ?

I was thinking in adding oats and brown rice again.

I dunno sometimes I think that each organism is an organism and I ****88 up mine.
I don't understand what's going on, why have I changed so dramatically ... and the info we get is almost so contradictoral ... there seems to be a general consensus of the importance of low gi food.
