How was early America laissez-faire? It wasn't. Corporations had time limited charters and were subject to dissolution if found to not work in the public interest. There were massive public works, so many public works that it became known as "The American System" Or "The American System of Economics".
Early America was very clasically liberal (not to be confused with modern so called liberalism), which is a ideology that seeks to maximize liberty, anarcho-capitalists don't care about maximizing liberty, they are fine with tyranny as long as it's privately run.

American System (economic plan) - Wikipedia
American School (economics) - Wikipedia
These were all good things, except of course the central bank should not be privately owned and run in secrecy. That's utter insanity.

So, where does he advocate for child slavery?
If you support X, and that leads to Y, you support Y or at least find it acceptable price to pay. Not only that, as you can see from the Naked Capitalism link I gave, there is a violent opposition to democratic organisation.

I have political positions that have negative consequences, I recognize that and wish to ameliorate those. Right libertarians themselves argue, and their critics agree, that their positions lead to child slavery. There is no desire to even ameliorate that issue, probably because most of them want that. Or find it acceptable.

There is a violent opposition to gays and democratic organisation though. Has any of the right libertarians explained how there would not be child slavery, or even justified it as lesser evil? No because it seems to be one of their most desired outcomes.

so ray likes or dislikes this guy's ideas?
Probably has not even heard of him, kind of unfair to call someone the Ray Peat of X. If ecstatichamster likes Murray Rothbard he should post why Rothbard has good ideas ..

Ray Peat recommended his work so he has heard of him. Consider reading through the thread. It's on page 1.

I plan on diving into his work a bit to get a bigger picture perspective on how his work developed over his time.

7th post down! He also suggested Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States" book as well.

On a Danny Roddy interview Ray was very belittling of Hoppe. I am sure he doesn’t think much of libertarianism.

listening to rothbard you get the same vibe as from Dr. Peat. Someone who is both brilliant, unconventional and an outstanding communicator. I recommend Conceived in Liberty for a good history of colonial America and after the 1776 Convention.
incidentally, since when are we listening to Wikipedia as a reliable source for things like this?

That was a complete ad hominem attack anyway. I reread that chapter and he isn’t saying that. But his arguments are easily twisted by our a Great Censors so the rubes don’t get it.

It’s complicated to apply libertarian lenses to children and abortion and such. I think he does a great job.

"Peat recommended Murray Bookchin’s work to me. I haven't read any of his books yet.

Has anyone here?"

The Cato institute founded by Rothbard with money from billionaire Koch.

@postman That is true. The wealth of America was built on protecting the productivity of industry.

The libertarian framework is going to reguard anything protectionist as immoral and inefficient. But history says this has no basis in reality.

Its been "cato, laissez faire" that has made the standard of living in America. Offshore jobs and import cheap labor.

Dont worry, libertarians also argue for prostitution, porn and drugs to numb the pain and sorrow...

The US government always favors the rich and large defense companies and banks. That’s not libertarian.

I think many Americans secretly would be happy if porn drugs prostitution etc were legalized.

rothbard showed in Conceived in Liberty how the libertarian impulses were overturned from the getgo in a sort of coup engineered by Hamilton and his allies, against Jefferson’s ideals of very small government, no standing army, and states as countries not as wards of Washington.

Covid-19 is the next step in fascism. by the end of the year we may have mandatory tracking, mandatory vaccinations, digital money and requirement to comply with lots of new laws that kill personal freedom.
