ANOTHER UPDATE:

So I am on my second day of no dry foods, and I felt great yesterday, today now too. I had one meal with mango and an 8-ounce glass of milk, yesterday, and it was surprisingly filling, like nothing else, but not in a sluggish way. That meal, or snack lasted me for hours. I also started my day, yesterday and today, with the 2 cups of milk with the instant coffee, instead of brewed, iced with maple sugar, and I have been a machine the last two days! I usually am really productive, but food was not in my thoughts most of the day yesterday, or today. I took a Mexican Coke while I was away from the house and food for 4 hours yesterday, after having that mango milk combination and never thought about food. Since I am not eating any of my dry sprouted things, for my experiment I splurged on a small bowl of, maybe 1 cup worth, of angel hair pasta for supper last night, with marinara, and I topped it with some fresh ricotta, which was a delight, but I was up a pound today from it, so that won’t be a regular. For lunch today my son made grass-fed hot dogs, and I had mine without the bun, and instead had it with a couple tablespoons of fresh ricotta, instead of mayonnaise, and organic ketchup, sweet pickle relish and mustard and wow that was quite enjoyable, though my photo might say otherwise. I had it with collagen powder in water on the side and a glass of whole milk.

My hot dog had 9 grams of fat and 6 protein, ricotta 3 fat and 3 protein, gelatin 11 protein and zero fat and a glass of whole milk had 8 fat and 8 protein for a total of 20 grams of fat and 28 grams of protein. I am not going to pair this with any sugar sources since I think the milk and the condiments have enough sugar. If not I will eat a spoonful of honey. Anyone serious about losing weight, just follow along with low-fat or nonfat milk, and you’ll save yourself a lot of fat calories. I am in maintenance mode, and have stayed at 144 all of these months, though today I was up a pound from the pasta, I am assuming. With my milk and instant coffee, my egg and cottage cheese and hot dog meal I am at a total of 58 grams of protein today with 49 grams of fat, in the 6 hours I was up. I could knock that fat in half with skim milk if I wanted to take off more weight quick. Later on I am having some watermelon and it’s rind pressed, some scalloped white sweet potatoes, and maybe a couple of oranges, juiced and strained somewhere.

This is why my scalloped potatoes, that I make with only cream, feel so much lighter than buttered potatoes….

“Cream and butter are very closely related; cream is essentially milk with a high percentage of butterfat, while butter is a semisolid form of cream. However, cream is lower in fat than butter. Butter is usually 80 percent milkfat, while cream is only 30 to 55 percent milkfat.”

UPDATE:

My two days of no dry food has made a big difference in my digestion. I am going to keep it up. My son and I were talking about it a couple of days ago, on my first day of it, and like he said, “dry foods are dehydrating”. All of my liquid consumption was going to trying to hydrate dry food instead of to my skin and places of need, and adding coffee, is even more dehydrating, which I don’t drink much of lately. Maybe my body was intuitively not wanting the coffee because it was on the dehydrated side. Already my conclusion is that dry foods slow down digestion. If one had the opposite system, then dry, sprouted, things could be helpful. Last night I had my low starch scalloped potatoes, and used white sweet potato, purple sweet potato, red potato, cream, garlic and fresh rosemary. Those potatoes always digest so well.

I am glad I gave up that Bullet-proof butter coffee. I had no idea there was such a big difference between cream and butter…

“My fats are hydrogenated coconut oil, and a littlebutter and lamb fat." ~ Ray Peat

He has mentioned to me serveral times he usually only uses about 1 tablespoon of hydrogenated coconut oil per day, for frying.”

UPDATE:

I finished my third day of no dry foods yesterday, and am finding some interesting things about it, firstly that my digestion is better, but my sleep is worse. Yesterday I had watermelon, the whole fruit this time, and fresh cateloupe last night, before 7:00, and I felt uncomfortably full all night, and could not sleep. I know the fiber in the fruit is something I don’t normally eat, but i am up on the scale even more this morning, two pounds in three days. I am thinking some of it is water weight, being more hydrated, but still that could be counterproductive for some. I am realizing two things, eating whole fruit is better to eat during the day, and alkaline fruits really don’t agree with me as well as the acidic ones, like oranges, lemons, and pineapple. My digestion just came to a screeching halt last night. I was very aware of my liver last night too, with it feeling full or inactive or something of that nature. I found this this morning….

“Fructose can constitute a substantial source of energy in the human diet. It is obviously a dispensable nutrient, and no adverse effects of a fructose-deprived diet have been reported. Excess fructose intake can cause dyslipidemia, hepatic fat storage and hepatic insulin-resistance in sedentary subjects.”

I have not had weight gain effects with sugar or honey, but fruit juices have been precarious for me, especiall bottled ones that are concentrated, but Ray Peat warned about the weight gain from them, I should think dried fruit would be even worse. I will continue to remove the fiber from my fruits and have them only the first part of the day, and definitely with a protein.

“The Yale researchers concluded that fructose consumption might be more likely to stimulate rather than curb appetite, similar to what was found in earlier animal research.”

In fact, on average, the 20 normal-weight, young adults who participated in the study reported that hunger was sated by glucose, but not by fructose, although the study does not demonstrate that fructose causes obesity.”

“Fructose does not triggerTrusted Source insulin release or the release of hormones, such as leptin, which tells the brain that a person is full. It also does not inhibit hormones that tell an individual’s body that they are hungry.

As a result, fructose may lead to weight gain because it may contribute to overeating.

In a 2017 studyTrusted Source on mice quoted in the NIHTrusted Sourcenews archives, researchers split mice on a standard, low fat diet into two groups. One group received added glucose and the other fructose. Both groups of mice gained weight. However, the rodents on a high fat diet that received fructose gained significantly more weight than mice on the same diet with added glucose.“

“Because dried fruits are energy dense, they're excellent for people trying to gain weight. However, they're high in natural sugars, so it's best to combine them with a source of healthy fat or protein to minimize the potential negative effects on your blood sugar”

“It’s said a gap of 30 minutes should be maintained between your fruit intake and meals. If eaten right after or right before meals, it may lead to indigestion and your body won’t get all the essential nutrients.

Diabetic patients should wait for at least one hour before and two hours after a meal to have fruits.”

I still feel full this morning from having cantaloupe last night…..

“Having fruits along with other meal can slow down the digestion process, which means the fruits sit for longer time in the stomach that can also lead to its fermentation. Fruits are rich in fibre which anyway get digested slowly and having them with meal slows the process even more.”

Ray Peat always said to have your proteins and sugars during the day and your carbs and fats at night….

“As per Ayurveda the right time to have fruit is in the morning on an empty stomach. That is the time when your stomach can absorb maximum nutrients from fruits. Also, simple carbs are best to consume in the morning and pre and post-workout. Fat, protein and low complex carbs are best to be consumed post-sunset.”

“Fruits break down quickly as compared to any other food. Pairing it with any other foods can lead to the formation of toxins in the body, known as ama. It is because the pairing of foods may decrease the digestion process. Fruits have to stay in the stomach for as long as the heaviest food takes to digest, making it difficult for the body to absorb nutrients. Digestive juices begin to ferment it, which is generally toxic and may increase the risk of illness and other health-related conditions. Moreover, having fruit with dairy items like milk and yoghurt can lead to skin conditions like acne, psoriasis and eczema.”

UPDATE:

I got things turned around and I am back down on the scale a pound and a half this morning. I feel lighter upon waking this morning, and my stomach is flatter. I slept really good last night too, finally. My sleep had been awful with the fruit this past 4 days, especially eating it at night. Because I don’t drink a lot of liquids, getting rid of the dry foods has my skin looking fresh and my digestion more efficient. It also cut out snacking since there isn’t too many convenient foods to snack on that aren’t dry. I generally eat two breakfasts nowadays, lunch, and an early supper. I was eating something at bedtime too, at least honey. After dinner last night, I fresh pressed an apple and a pear, and later I had a half cup of pineapple juice mixed with a half cup of water, some sugar and a pinch of salt and I felt satisfied until bedtime, when I had a spoonful of honey. I will keep experimenting with the fruit and keeping dry foods out of my diet.

I am planting saffron bulbs today, and was surprised to read of so many benefits from eating it, even just smelling it!

“Snacking is a common habit that may cause you to gain weight. According to research, saffron may help prevent snacking by curbing your appetite.

In one 8-week study, women taking saffron supplements felt significantly more full, snacked less frequently, and lost significantly more weight than women in the placebo group (20Trusted Source).

In another 8-week study, taking a saffron extract supplement helped significantly reduce appetite, body mass index, waist circumference, and total fat mass (3Trusted Source).

However, scientists are unsure how saffron curbs appetite and aids weight loss. One theory is that saffron elevates your mood, which in turn reduces your desire to snack (20Trusted Source).”

You might find Solar Timing eating as described by Atom Bergstrom interesting. He has a website and a book. I did this for a time and found and liked it very much. Unfortunately, it was during a time that I was raising children as a stay at home mom. After I began to work outside the home again, it is more difficult to maintain given the foods that I eat and the lack of time I have for eating at work.

What kind of cottage cheese are you getting? Cream cheese? I have a difficult time finding good choices- the cream cheese especially.

UPDATE:

Yesterday was my fifth day of no eating anything dry. I forgot to eat any fruit yesterday, being busy, but I ate healthy nevertheless. I had a couple of cups of milk and coffee, an egg topped with maple syrup, ate fresh mozzarella with olive oil and balsamic syrup, and filled in with a couple of glasses of whole raw milk, and went out for an early dinner. For dinner I had a BIG portion of burrata cheese with roasted bell peppers, olives, capers, basil and balsamic glaze and my girlfriend and I split a crepe wrapped manicotti dish, so I ate a lot of dairy yesterday. I had a half cup of pineapple juice when I got home and I am down another half pound today, with a flat stomach. I was really surprised to see that this morning, since I had a lot of fat and ate a lot in the evening, and a restaurant! Today I am out of milk and cream for my coffee so I have to “rough it” this morning, so I made a strong shot of coffee and poured it in a bowl with my homemade, no cream or yolks, ice cream, an Affogato. This little coffee just gave me 35%of my calcium for the day! My recipe is in my thread, linked below!

Hehe…that’s my kind of roughing it. You and I seem to share a similar experience with dairy/dairy fat. I find it slimming, too. Since removing the last of the plants/fruit from my diet almost 2 months ago, I’ve been averaging daily 3 liters of raw milk, 6 oz of raw aged cheese, 4 oz of scallops or crab with butter, an egg dish like crustless quiche, a cup of homemade ice cream sweetened with honey or some honey in hot water and I’m down 5 lb. I don’t know how those on a carnivore diet keep weight on.
