Who knows where the world is going (well i guess we have an idea) but Mexico seems to be a place that may allow more freedoms than where America seems to be headed.

Ray and Danny speak pretty favorably about it. However, I know no place is perfect.

Affordability is obviously a plus.

Any advice or places to consider?

I think that the countries that did well in the COVID situation are good countries to live in.

Its leadership was not following the globalist herd. It had a sound policy that didn't protect the selfish interests of the elite, but had the common good in mind. The leadership would only come about in a country of informed citizens that are aware of the issues of the day.

Countries such as Sweden, Vietnam, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea comes to mind.

It would come as no surprise that the media in such countries are free from the tyranny of a globalist press that seems to speak with one united voice, ala WHO and the UN, but are actually in the throes of a globalist agenda of the elite, the word "elite" being a code word for a particular vile set of archaic and lizard-like religious beliefs.

Why do you think they are building a Wall? It's to keep Americans out. You better get there quick. It could be too late in 2 months.

I'd love to move to Mexico. But it's not in the cards at least for several years.

You really have to have an income plan.

My cousin lived in Mexico City for a little over a year. She liked it ( especially the extremely cheap food costs ) but she recently moved back. I wonder what its like in the more high altitude regions like Ray Peat lived ( or maybe still lives sometimes ?). Hes the only person Ive ever heard of living there besides the locals of course.

I have visited the towns just north of Puerto Vallarta for a wedding like Sayulita etc. and they seemed ok. By the way a lot of Canadians own property there for some reason.

I'm from Europe and happen to have quite a few Mexican friends that I went to visits for weeks at a time.

My experience is only in Mexico DF, but I also got stories from my friends from Veracruz and Sinaloa.

-All of them without exception got carjacked at least once, including in DF.
- All of them know of at least a close friend who was sequestrated and ransomed.
- Mexico DF is extremely poluted and I found it hard to breathe.
- The good foods there are all full of starch and gluten (like in any other country you can still live on OJ, milk, liver, gummies, not sure about oysters).
- I speak Spanish so it was easy for me to get by, not sure how it is if you only speak English.

To our dear friend, let's save extraneous information and your unfortunate attitude. Lets answer the question first posed. Thank you.

I have been to Mexico several times and asked myself is Mexico doable. I think it is. Here are three locations I would consider Baja Peninsula, the Meridia area on Yucatan Pen, and a very "American" area San Miguel D'Allende I believe it is. Safety is my first concern and I think those all match up. I would also look at San Carlos on Baja as a least expensive version, smaller version than Cabo. San Miguel gets rave reviews but may not be expensive in comparison, artsy place, good food. Meridia, is classic old Mexico with traditons. My 2 cents.

I’d like to go too but I dont have as much an idealised vision of it, just a place with better climate and where money could go further in some areas. Not trying to be sensationalist, but at least the level of peak sadistic violence doesn’t seem to be as high in USA.

Well, maybe when some cities start enforcing the law again our sadistic violence will abate.....Mexico is not perfect and most places you can't jump in your car and drive all over the country without care....if you are stuck here, hope for law and order to make a comeback. Remember, people with lots of money and agendas have been creating havoc for political gain...very sad...I won't say too much, but Conservatism is much more friendly than what the left wants...I must stop here. lol.

San Miguel de Allende - Wikipedia
At the beginning of the 20th century, the town was in danger of becoming a ghost town after an influenza pandemic. Gradually, its Baroque/Neoclassical colonial structures were "discovered" by foreign artists who moved in and began art and cultural institutes such as the Instituto Allende and the Escuela de Bellas Artes. This gave the town a reputation, attracting artists such as David Alfaro Siqueiros, who taught painting.

This attracted foreign art students, especially former U.S. soldiers studying on the G.I. Bill after the Second World War. Since then, the town has attracted a significant number of foreign retirees, artists, writers and tourists, which has shifted the area's economy from agriculture and industry to commerce catering to outside visitors and residents.

I can see why Ray chose this town.

I have remained silent as I'm just reading the posts/ digesting the info and don't have much to say yet but I appreciate the insights so far.

Being from the Middle East I understand the concept of spotty safety but I also know the immense amount of good and hospitality that also exists. Mexico seems similar.

I have been to Puerto Morelos twice but not for long bouts of time and not to live. Probably not an accurate representation of the rest of/ majority of Mexico.

Mexico is a lot more dangerous than any country in the middle East, like by a huge margin.

Most countries in Middle East: Lebanon, Israel, UAE, Saudi, you risk nothing in terms of petty crime, it's only organized crime at a higher level you don't even notice.

Syria, Irak, Iran, there is a risk of terrorist attack once in a while, but again it's on larger scale with very little probability of it affecting the average Joe.

Two separate worlds.
In Mexico, you basically have to accept the idea that you're going to get robbed or physically attacked, often.

Didn‘t Latin America enforce some of the most strict lockdowns including curfews?

When Peat talks about Mexico now, doesn‘t he means the remote villages? What I saw from Latin American cities during „COVID“ was quite horrible. The police would harass/arrest you for even leaving your home.
Please correct me if the situation was different for Mexican cities specifically.

Danny is in Mexico again and he says he still can‘t go into some stores without a mask and the police even threatens shop owners with consequences if they don‘t enforce the mask mandates.

Hate to burst your bubbles but Mexico has some of the most violent cities on earth and it’s been getting worse and worse (List of cities by murder rate - Wikipedia). We used to go to Tijuana to buy vegetables but stopped that years ago when the gang violence went out of control and the whole city and its police became corrupt. Bodies were showing up in rivers and most murders were going unsolved. Honest police were being hunted and gunned down.

My impression of Mexicans and Mexico as far as “conservatism“ is that they are conservative when it comes to family values but many are staunch supporters of socialism/Marxism of whom ironically constantly attack those traditional family values and society leading to further breakdown. This also which doesn’t bode well if you’re seeking to prosper economically by doing business or working.
