Metamizole -- A Safe Drug, Banned Because Cheaply Available

This is the sad story of another drug that Big Pharma wanted off the market. In the US, you may have never heard of it, it was banned in 1977 after a few wrong studies and conclusions...:(

It is still widely used in Mexico, Russia and other countries, as an over the counter medication. Romania had to place it on the "prescription only" list of drugs recently, because of European Union "integration". Right... It is the analgesic that worked best for me and now I need to find a new way of getting it.

Anyway, it's an interesting story and especially those of you who deal with chronic pains and/or migraines might want to take a look at it:

It's widely used in Austria & Germany. Shame it's not available in the U.K.

Does anyone know how it works? Does it inhibit COX-2?
