I thought the forum might enjoy these documentaries filmed and produced by Malcolm Douglas, an Australian wildlife documentary film maker and crocodile hunter. Douglas was an advocate of the 'live off the land' movement avant la lettre, and spent extended periods of time in the company of Aboriginal tribespeople in order to learn their dietary habits and hunting methods.

Fair warning, there is graphic imagery of a circumcision ceremony in Across The Top part 1.

I find the hunting prowess of Aborigines astounding, as well as their indiscriminate consumption of animal proteins. They eat turtles, crocodiles, snakes, goannas, frogs, crabs, budgerigars etc. Essentially any protein they can find. In the video filmed off the Kimberley Coast, Malcolm discovers scorched human bones with the suggestion of cannibalism, widely practiced by Aborigines prior to the influence of Western civilisation much like the highland tribes of New Guinea.

They seem to truly dominate the food chain, as they are targeted less often by renowned man-eaters like the saltwater crocodile.

Their spear-throwing accuracy and the use of the spear holder to stabilise the trajectory seems very effective. I posted this in seafood as I couldn't think of the relevant category from what is listed.

Beyond specifics I was inspired by Malcolm's luck in documenting the uniqueness of the Kimberley and Arnhem Land's flora and fauna as well as his morally neutral exploration of the lives of hunter-gatherers.

A very uplifting perspective, and congruent with many of the philosophies and ideals so dear to many of us.
