Lysine Amazing For Social Interaction

I always pay close attention to the supplements I take and their effects on a range of issues from energy levels to bowel movements etc.

The last few months I've been experimenting with Lysine, and I've noticed soon after taking a 500mg capsule, I spend a lot more time engaging in conversations with people in my work and home life, I don't feel more confident or anything, like with something like DHT, but I just feel like people find me more approachable or able to talk to.

I'm normally quite an introvert and naturally shy away from social interaction, so I really take notice when anything is slightly different in my social life.

Does anyone know what could be the mechanism behind this. Lower Serotonin? I understand lysine antagonises in particular the 5ht3 receptor.

Or maybe it's raising Dopamine?

Any other introverts noticed improved social skills from Lysine?

Guru, not sure if this is relevant, but:

- L-Carnitine

"Endogenous biosynthesis of L-carnitine is catalyzed by the concerted action of five different enzymes. This process requires two essential amino acids (lysine and methionine), iron (Fe2+), vitamin B6, niacin in the form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), and may also require vitamin C (4). One of the earliest symptoms of vitamin C deficiency is fatigue, thought to be related to decreased synthesis of L-carnitine (23)."

And since you've benefited from more choline in the diet, perhaps there's a connection as well.

Lysine also lowers nitric oxide production, which seems to promote fear and inhibitory behavior.
Methylene blue is also very effective in lowering nitric oxide and has similar pro-social effects as lysine in my experience.

i think its more to do with the serotonin antagonism.
I just found this study:
" lysine blocked >40% of serotonin binding to 5-HT4 receptors but also inhibited binding to 5-HT1A, 5-HT2A, and 5-HT2B receptors."

Interesting insights, and results. Can you recommend a good source for Lysine?

Anti-Serotonin and anti-NO seems to be it. The first word that comes to mind when I think of Lysine is "friendly", like it is both gentle and friendly to its user (not having unwanted dual effects at physiological doses) and it makes you more friendly, in a more comfortable state with others and with yourself. Also makes your skin soft like an angel, can't be a coincidence.

Although I thought Lysine only reduced NO from competion with Arginine at higher doses. I remember @Vinero mentioning 6 grams, do you have some info about minimum amounts to produce this effect ?

@Joeyd 5-HT1a is beneficial for dopamine production, inhibiting it would have a reducing effect.

I think that too much dopamine actually feels manic and maybe less able to interact with others (this high motivation to "win" may apply to social situations; which can be cringy from an exterior eye). People on drugs for instance (whereas the ones where people communicate most gently like cannabis and mdma have balanced effects, also increasing Serotonin). Something spiritual and humanizing about melatonin and darkness too. I don't know, I'm just beginning to explore this idea of a balance, having been consistently high dopamine for a while, it seems to inhibit sadness that could potentiate feelings of love at times. I've also noticed that a lot of comedians are on the Serotonin side, it seems to better help understand comedy and emotional sensibilities and although this isn't probably an entirely beneficial thing, I don't think it is either only negative (though having a generally sarcastic mind is counterproductive and unvirtuous).

Very high dopamine is probably optimal for creative ventures and problem solving though. I've had this experience a few times where I edge to porn for several hours without ejaculating and go to class a bit later, I think I feel high dopamine at this time because the strong neons dont have a mentally tiring effect but the thing is that I also feel absolutely unhuman and unable to relate to others, lacking sensitivity; pretty much just interested in what could create more dopamine (can be goals like getting work done; games or sports etc). That said, to create such balance in the modern world that is highly Serotonin biased, it requires basically to only focus on raising Dopamine and decreasing Serotonin while trying to no reach extremes. It could be that moderately high Dopamine and moderately low Serotonin is an ideal; and Lysine seems to promote this.

There's also the concern of dopamine excess potentially producing more products of oxidation with neurotoxic effects when combined with Endotoxins.

Lysine increases butyrate production in the gut which lowers intestinal permiability and increases ATP. It also somehow acts to enhance nutrient absorption of many minerals / prevent them from being consumed first by endotoxin promoting bacteria.

Joed, are you still taking Lysine ?
I believe it also effects GABA, but not 100% sure.

yeah I am. it's good stuff. Ive worked out the effect I discussed above, only happens when my glutathione levels are high. so somehow the lysine interacts with glutathione

How do you know when your glutathione is high?

Does Lysine make one more mellow, aka is it pro-GABA / cortisol antagonist? If yes, then it will probably give me low energy levels if I would take it?
Anything that is highly anti-stress makes me less energetic.
I have anxiety with both high or low stress.

Take some Lysine, 1-2grams and then report back on your erections what happens in 5 days.

@Kunstruct Just took 1g, for the first time. The effect was very subtle, very minimal. Mild calm feeling and serenity.. No mood boost.
Guess I had too big expectations.
Mind you, I was feeling surprisingly good this morning already.
You think it will negatively effect erections due to lowered nitric oxide?
