Luminaire for 250-500 watt bulbs

I first bought a heat lamp, but now I understand that regular indascent bulbs are actually more beneficial.
What sort of luminaire (is this the right word ?) do you guys use for those 250-500 watt kind of bulbs ?
I would like to use a 500 watt bulb and make sure that it can shine on my whole body when I use it.
Did any of you guys make some construction like that ?
My 250 watt heat lamp is smelling a little bad when I turn it on, so I guess I did someting wrong.
What kind of constuction do you guys use to get beneficial light daily ?
