Does anybody else have this? It's different than GERD. People report that it goes away when they lay down, which is strange. The normal drugs often don't work.

You might want to investigate B1 or the fat soluble one, Allithiamine. I was reading yesterday and ran across this blog post. He might make you rethink sugar, as he poo poos it, who doesn't? After studying RP's work, I think the starches are what elevates glucose much faster than sugar.

That article was interesting because it brought up dysautomnia, which I have due to a Chiari I malformation. I think the eosinophilic esophagitis might be an exacerbating element, but my symptoms include bloating and belching, and are related a lot to what and how much I eat. I just don't have any of the chest pains. I'll looks into B1, Thanks for the leads.

I have this too, diagnosed. It's weird though mine is definitely exacerbated by lying down/sleep. Like you my main symptoms are belching and bloating, and also throat and vocal problems. I do very infrequently get chest pains. Interestingly, I do also have quite a lot of dysautonomic symptoms, lightheadedness on standing up, poor blood circulation, tremor, exercise intolerance to name a couple. I can't really offer advice 'cause I haven't found anything to fix it myself yet, but I've read a lot about other people's experiences. One guy from elsewhere who said he completely cured his with amitriptyline, and that the LPR specialist who prescribed it saw improvement in like 50% of the people he tried it on. Another guy said he tried everything and finally found relief with alkaline water (8.8 and above I think). His theory was related to pepsin, I think the high pH denatures the pepsin which is apparantly in high levels in our throat/saliva. I can't remember exactly, it was a long time ago that I read it, if you're interested I'll try and find the posts again. I'm definitely going to look into vit b1 though.

Hi all, MELATONIN. MELATONIN, MELATONIN!!!!!!! I have been plagued with LRP(Silent Reflux) for 8 yrs now and I am self diagnosed because most docs out there have NO CLUE to what LRP is. I was using Kratom every night so I could sleep otherwise sleep was impossible but I have since been CURED!!!!!!! I learned that Melatonin strengthens the lower esophageal sphincter and does not allow acids to come up to your espophogeaous. I started 10mg of melatonin an hour before bed 3 days ago. the 2nd day it was GONE. my Silent Reflux was like clockwork EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. I'm posting this because I know the suffering your going through. this is a CURE period. Look up the Dr Oz piece on Silent Reflux and the use of melatonin, it's changing my life as we speak!

Hi there,

How much melatonin do you take? I have LPR as well. I have taken melatonin in the past and it hasn't helped my other issues, but I am willing to try it again with regards to the LPR. Is it still helping you?

Any update? Still taking Melatonin or were 2 days enough to cure the problem?

I had this too. 5 mg of melatonin before bed seemed to help somewhat, as did sleeping on the left side. Baking soda is also surprisingly helpful. I wouldn't touch PPIs again.

I took maybe a teaspoon twice a day, or whenever I started feeling the burning sensation in my throat.

It is nasty, this condition, even on its own. But also my guts have for whatever reason gone mad as well so might be looking at some kind of overgrowth or worse dysbiosis (yuk) so might be having to use herbal antibios but I'm on the B vitamins and melatonin as well. Good luck everyone.
