I don't normally read the news - I don't want to be manipulated. But I think this is one small step in the right direction.

Maybe - The average American is 23 pounds heavier than his or her ideal body weight. So making a doll based on averages may not end so well either.
What kind of ideal, defined by who? Apparently, the mortality and morbity stats favour people in the so-called 'overweight' category over people in the so-called 'ideal' category of standard BMI ranges. I don't think that means everyone should strive to be in that range - it might not be optimal for any particular individual. But the promoted 'ideal' seems to be strongly influenced by the weight-loss (including pharmaceuticals) and gym industries.

7. Defining 65% of the population as overweight and obese in 1998, and indicating that being overweight and obese actually raised both morbidity and mortality issues, was determined by a medical panel with eight of the nine members holding conflict-of-interest relationships with pharmaceutical companies involved in weight-loss drug development, and/or weight-loss companies such as Weight Watchers.

8. We have never lived longer and never been heavier than we are at this moment.
