I started taking lysine (3g in divided doses) and feel super tired and groggy after sleeping and have deeper circles under my eyes . also i am more foregetfull and feel more brainfog . Will this pass ? And is this some kind of serotonin withdrawal ?
In my experience that is a high dose and this product lysine I would not use regularly. Simply as a one off when I sense my serotonin is high. I use 1500mg maximum at a time - only once and then not use it again for like a month etc.

This might come down to individual experience, but I would err on the side of caution here. When I was messing with lysine -- probably about half the amount you're taking -- it screwed up my energy levels pretty good. There's some other thread around here where OP is talking about developing pneumonia symptoms after higher doses of lysine and was unable to recover without discontinuing the supplement. My take on this is that there could be other things that do what lysine does, possibly with a different mechanism of action.

today i was feeeling better .didnt take my morning dose . so im only gonna take in 1-1,5 g .
btw i do get a lot of benefits from lysine: its the only thing that lets me sleep without sleeping pills or laying there for 2-3 hours in the last weeks since i started preg and 11kdht ... also erection quality is through the roof and mood is great , hair looks better , water retention from my face is gone , muscles look fuller and harder only the reduced bloating that others experiences i cannot attest to ...
maybe i will try to add in some arginine since i have left some anyways. so as far as i know i will still get serotonin lowering from that combo . from what i read there can be problems if you dont have adequate levels / suppplement : arginine, vitamin c, zinc and gelatin ... im taking all of those
im not trying to rationalize my lysine taking i just want to keep the benefits so im doing everything i can to not experience adverse reactions like others . defenetly gonna play around with the dosage though...

Cool - I've definitely heard of people experiencing good things with lysine, but for some reason these reports seem to diminish LT. I just started Cypro for sleep and serotonin lowering, but I believe it might also make the hair good.

I don't have an answer for you @Mauritio , but I also have noticed something about having circles under my eyes too since I started taking around 2 grams of lysine daily earlier this year. It was worse a couple months ago and I'm not noticing it currently, I'm ranking it up as a die-off symptom brought on by the lysine strengthening my immune system.

I also wanted to mention that my ability to handle caffeine is much increased ! I also might need more calories ...

does anybody know / understand why lysine decreases my ability to focus aka brain fog so much ?
if i knew what happened might be able to take/ do sth. against it ...

also my benefits seem to decrease with decreased dosage , but at the same pace my tiredness goes away .
cant sth just be easy for once ? :D

Based on my experience I think lysine has some "prebiotic" effects and the fog you are feeling may be from bacteria die-off in the gut. I would try taking at the same time along with the lysine any of the following: taurine, nac, molybdenum, glycine. Those all help the liver detox from die-off.

oh so you suspect liver behind all of this ? that would make some sense since it always comes down to liver for me... i just took some tyrosine maybe that is gonna help me focus and study ...

i think i found the solution to why lysine makes me unable to focus : " Therefore a lack of dopamine leads to symptoms typical of 'ADD', ie the inability to concentrate and focus, with thoughts spinning."
Prolactin/tyrosine/dopamine/thyroid

my very recent experience confirms this : took 500mg tyrosine( which converts to dopamin) like an hour ago . now my ability to study and focus is completely back to my normal self !

the part that someone has to explain to me is why lysine seems to lower dopamine as well as serotonin. as far as i know it should do the oppsite since it lowers serotonin...

I'm not sure. I have been taking mucuna pruriens, often at the same time as l-lysine, and have not noted there being any decrease in the mp dopamine effects when I also have it with lysine. It is possible you are so low dopamine right now that small changes are being made very obvious to you, I experienced that earlier this year from various other supplements - and I was massively low dopamine at that time. Lysine is pro gaba - I cannot find anything on it being anti dopamine, you are maybe experiencing sedative gaba like effects from it.

Its definetly a possibility !But why would i be low in dopamine ? i can only think of lysine . because before lysine i didnt have those symptoms. thats why i figured lysine caused them ...
or do you mean i experienc lysine induced gaba feelings that feel as if my dopamin was lowered ?

@Mauritio , I'm not sure what is going on, but if you are feeling dopamine drop from lysine I think that points to having low dopamine - as I have not experienced lysine to be that strong in regards to dopamine inhibition. Perhaps you are sensitive to gaba. Perhaps being flooded with gaba is blocking your dopamine... I'm not scientifically astute enough to say if this is valid or not but I came up with this after a quick search: Direct link between GABA activation and dopamine suppression So I guess there is some competition between gaba and dopamine.

Arginine is actually quite dangerous as it is the main precursor to NO. Basically, you are taking an over the counter Viagra and that drug has been tried for heart issue prevention and it failed miserably long term and also increased cancer incidence. I would drop any arginine supplementation beyond what you are getting from food.

ok, thanks. i am tempted to switch over to lysine instead of cyproheptadine but am undecided. i like the effects from cypro, especially on higher doses (except increased appetite). But cypro doesn't feel "clean" to me in the system like vitamin and minerals. If you know what I mean. And I don't know if some of that thinking is just in the back of my mind that it's an Rx. But even so, there are things about it that make me feel that way - such as how it causes zombification when increasing the dose even just a little (though that wears off as tolerance develops) or the actual withdrawals from it I had in the fall (it reminded me of going off ssri's except it was blessedly quick and much easier, but still).

Hey I know this is an old thread, would have sent a PM but it says i cant send messages to you. Just wanted to ask you more about your cypro withdrawals and what they were like, how long did they last, how did you cope, did you use anything to alleviate the symptoms, etc. I am experiencing a massive rebound myself and it doesnt seem to be dissipating. Thanks ahead of time
