I don't start threads very often (I think this is my second one) but I thought this video was interesting and worth posting.
He mentions that a pasta meal with MCT oil is more ketogenic than restricting carbohydrates to 10% of calories.
Since strict ketogenic diets are so low in protein and carbohydrates, it is unclear whether the elevated levels of β-hydroxybutyrate seen in this type of diet is indicative of more ketones being produced and used or is a sign that body is unable to use these ketones because of decreased oxaloacetic acid. Oxaloacetic acid is needed to use ketones and OAA is made from either carbohydrates or protein.
