Is the ACTH stimulation/"Synacthen" test safe?

Hi all,

I have an ACTH-stimulation / Synacthen test planned for next week but vaguely remember that Ray said something negative about artificially injecting ACTH.
The problem is I can't remember where I read the quote - would anyone know what quote I'm talking about?

I want to be sure that this test won't do any long term harm. They measure baseline cortisol, then inject you with ACTH, and after a period of time measure how much your cortisol has risen, to gauge the max. capacity of your adrenal glands.

I don’t know the quote, sorry.

I had that test this spring though and can share my experience. I don’t feel like it did any permanent damage. For me it seemed similar to taking a prednisone pill but I felt completely normal by the next day. I hope that was a tiny bit helpful and that you get more input.
