Are we to assume that nobody has low serotonin bc of how it’s bashed on here? It just can’t be. I’m not saying serotonin is the happy hormone, but I would imagine some ppl just have low neurotransmitter function on many fronts/neurotransmitter imbalances. Low dopamine and serotonin.

The Question is how do we know ? It’s so hard. What if ppl have generic mutations involving serotonin ? Surely not everyone should Blindly be lowering serotonin aggressively ? Idk just my take

I have gut issues despite trying a ton of things? What is serotonins role in the gut ? Ik most of serotonin is in the gut? Would high or low serotonin contribute to issues !? Or could both ?

5htp makes me feel better. No way around it. Why is that ? If serotonin is inherently evil lol? I think we can’t be so narrow minded, when many things are individual. Can someone explain why I feel good on 5htp?

I also remember in my early 20s taking 1 Xanax like 4-5 times and feeling remarkably good on it. I felt grounded is the best way to put it. Looking for input! Cheers

5-htp made me feel good as well, for a few days. It's probably because it increases cortisol. For anyone who has low cortisol, this may cause a temporary boost in mood, at the expense of long term health. I don't think things are black and white, either. Serotonin is needed for gut motility and a lot of other functions. It just so happens that most people have more than they would need for optimal functioning. So it's not that we have a closed minded opinion. I think most of us would agree Serotonin is needed in some quantity but for most of us, much like estrogen, we would be better off reducing it.
