Hi! Got my lab results on iron:
Two tests drawn at the same moment:
1)
Ferritin 102 (range 30-400)
Serum iron 22.7 (5.8-34.5)
Transferrin 2.4 (2.2-3.7)
Transferrin saturation 38% (15-55)
2)
Serum iron 23.8
TIBC 51.0 (54.0-72.0) → low
Unbound iron binding capacity - 27.2
However, if I were to calculate Transferrin saturation based on the second test, I would get 47%, not the 38% based on the ferritin level.
Is it possible I have iron overload? Why are the results so different?
I started eating more red meat over the last few weeks. No supplements.
Thanks!
