Iodine in milk is listed at anywhere from 55mcg - 115mcg per 8 oz. Wouldn't this be troublesome especially for people who drink large amounts of milk? Ray advised keeping iodine under 500mcg per day I believe.
According to this article, Iodine concentrates in the whey portion of the milk. They have 100g of whey powder listed as containing 471mcg iodine. That's only 4 scoops of whey protein. Would this explain why people who don't have issues with dairy in general can sometimes have reactions to whey protein products even if unflavored, and maybe why people can have different reactions to different brands? Should we be taking in extra selenium on a daily basis if consuming significant amounts of dairy or dairy products like whey protein, ice cream, etc. Ice cream is mentioned as having 30mcg iodine per half cup, so one pint would be 120mcg. It seems difficult to keep iodine under the 500mcg mark if you consume a lot of dairy. It's also supposedly in meat products as well as seafood. So you could easily be getting over 500mcg without any multivitamin or supplements coming into play.
