Instant Wellbeing Effect From Carrot Salad

My recipe
  • 1 grated carrot
  • grated fresh ginger root
  • heavy salt
  • 1-2 tsp coconut oil
  • optionally, 1 tbsp ACV
Within moments and while I'm eating, I get this instant boost
  • feel more grounded, warm
  • all is well, I am safe
  • body is tingling
Has anyone had this experience? What do to to make the benefits permanent?
I think I also suffer from brain fog and clinging to obsessive thoughts. I'll be spending my day foggy and negative, then in some rare moments, while I'm having the carrot salad or walking in the city sipping OJ, I get a sudden shift in perception. At that moment, I wonder why I was so negative and self-defeatist all about?

Placebo?

For me, the carrot salad benefits by improving bowel movements, and that in turn improves my sense of well being. But I dont particularly enjoy eating it.

I don't get an instant feeling of wellbeing myself, but it becomes pretty obvious within 1 hour or 2.

I've experimented lately with eating it right after my evening meal, 4 hours or more before I go to bed. It does wonders, seems to really clean out my intestines.

It probably works even better if you add a little antibiotics, or camphosal along with the carrot salad to potentiate its effects. Maybe some fresh thyme or some clove or oregano oil added to it could work as well, for the antibacterial effects.

The grated ginger root is a really good idea though, I'm definitely going to try that, it's antibacterial and anti-serotonin in of itself.

Thanks for sharing!

I too have experienced this! I can be gloomy for a couple hours but it can change on a dime with the right trigger, some sunshine, or a specific food. Avoiding constipation with cascara and coffee also reliably increases mood. And you're totally right, when your perception changes, you wonder why you were so depressed in the first place haha

Coffee is indeed a mild mood booster for me too.
I get 1-2 bowel movements / day, but it's mostly in the morning / noon. I rarely go in the evenings.

Also don't forget prunes for guaranteed bowel movements, only 3-5 are required, always reliable.
I also use enteric coated oregano oil capsules with 55% carvacrol that gives me a clean and clear headed feeling (think it reduces endotoxin) or something.

D-limonene also seems to combine well with the oregano caps

I've gotten the same kind of instant warmth, clarity of thought etc awesome energetic feeling from the carrot salad too, yet it gives me painful bloating. :(

Personally I enjoy the cooked white button mushrooms better - fried up with some grated ginger, garlic, salt and coconut oil it's very tasty!

In my experience, well-being reliably goes up when I do everything I can to reduce endotoxin burden:
  • Nuke gut bacteria with lots of saturated fat, clear out small intestine
  • Zero starch to reduce waste in colon - non-negotiable!
  • Well cooked mushrooms, ginger tea, strong coffee, antibiotics
  • Poop 2-3 x per day
Discovering Ray Peat was a blessing. I'm so much healthier now compared to when I was eating a "healthy balanced diet" which reliably induces depression/self-loathing, lots of brain fog and deja vu's, bipolar tendencies, severe social anxiety and weird estrogen-driven cravings for porn.

I get the same feeling. I think its because I view carrots as one of the safest foods thats almost impossible to mess up, so it gives a sense of relief/hope for better health as a result of eating it. this form of immiediate perception change is probably based on placebo (with the more physical benefits coming later), but these short term feelings of hope can do alot for someone in a bad head space

Would you be kind enough to link to the oregano enteric capsules you use? Sounds like a great idea - thanks for your insight.

@James b

Hey James, no problem see Oregano Oil Softgels
Oregano Oil is standardized to ensure a minimum of 55% Carvacrol.

If you do try them please in a few weeks/month post back your benefits, or not :):

Can you explain your use of antibiotics? I'm curious as to what to use, dosage, length of time. Strongly considering this in the near future. I've just had so many negative reactions to antibiotics I'm afraid of doing it again.

I'd say that the "instant" boost you're experiencing, unless by "instant" you mean the second it enters your mouth, can only be due to the medium chain triglycerides.

MCTs passively diffuse from the GI tract to the portal system (longer fatty acids are absorbed into the lymphatic system) without requirement for modification like long-chain fatty acids or very-long-chain fatty acids. In addition, MCTs do not require bile salts for digestion. Patients who have malnutrition, malabsorption or particular fatty-acid metabolism disorders are treated with MCTs because MCTs do not require energy for absorption, use, or storage. Due to their ability to be absorbed rapidly by the body, medium-chain triglycerides have found use in the treatment of a variety of malabsorption ailments.

If the boost is even more instant than I'm assuming, it's probably the ginger. (I get the same "the moment it hits my mouth" rush from ginger and cayenne pepper, for example. Same mechanism.) If you want to boost your head right off, try grating some fresh horseradish root in a closed room. ;)

i feel like when i go overboard on raw carrot like 2 to 3 per day,i get hypo symptoms and i dont digest anything anymore, but when i have endotoxins symptoms after 500 grammes of honey, one magic carrot can obliterate all those symptoms,so now i take it only when needed
