Not very surprising, most cultures, even early farming ones, ate animal foods if possible.

the pottery in britain was mostly fish fat during hunter-gatherer times, and transitioned to mostly dairy fat after the Bell Beakers invaded.

Indian vegetarianism is a pretty recent phenomenon evolutionarily speaking, about 1000 years old.
