Is it necessary to supplement with DHEA directly? Or can other measures such as pregnenolone or thyroid do the trick?

Stress really lowers DHEA over time, so lifestyle is going to be a big factor. There's not a lot of ways to raise DHEA that I'm aware of. Nicotine is one. Exercise is another. Direct supplementation may be warranted in some cases and is certainly the most effective. Considering how cheap it is, I don't think there's any reason not to supplement 5 or 10mg but I think if one can afford it, it should always be used with accompanying blood tests, just to make sure nothing crazy is going on and to make sure supplementation is actually needed in the first place.
